He/Him. One of the Dudes from Dungeon Dudes. TTRPG author and content creator, mini painter, artist, amateur foodie, video game player. Probably a Hobbit.
I know I was a bit long winded. But I think we should forgive the show of taking 10 years, surviving Covid, and two strikes, and let it be what it is. A fun, new-age love letter to 80s horror, kids on bikes, and D&D. It’s done very well, is accessible, and takes itself just seriously enough. Enjoy.

It is constantly nodding and winking at every 80s classic trope. It offers a lot of fan service for those of us who get the references. But I think the show is special because it manages to be its own thing, and a unique original story, while also constantly pointing to its references openly.

And let’s be real…Defining my genre mash up in a nutshell; kids on bikes, 80s tropes, lovecraftian horror, mystery thriller, monster movie, all wrapped up in a D&D bow. At times the show does stretch into silliness, but I for one love that. IMO it balances horror, mystery, drama, comedy very well.

I will admit I made jokes about watching married adults with families come back to fight monsters in high school but 4 episodes in and I still feel the same way I always did about Stranger Things. That is that I LOVE it, and everyone is doing a wonderful job.

But I find the hate I’m seeing for this show is so unfounded and weird. The major issue I see is that yes, the “kids” are all now fully grown adults. But this was never their fault. It wasn’t the writers or directors, or anyone on the shows fault. The show suffered two writers strikes and covid.

I want to talk about Stranger Things for a moment. Before I do, I have to admit that yes, I notoriously like things, and yes, when I am part of a fandom, I generally just accept all aspects of being a fan of that thing, and care not for the little issues or problems. I LIKE liking things.

This was not a horror film but a tragic examination of being human, examining guilt, and despair. Taking responsibility for our actions, hubris, and ambition. Finding empathy & understanding as well. These themes echo the original story and truly honour it in a way films have never done before.

Acting is top notch by everyone in the film. I felt lost in the characters. None more than the creature played by Jacob Elordi. Likely the least famous and well known person in the film, still relatively known thanks to some stand out work in recent years, delivers so much while saying so little.

Every frame of this movie felt like a work of art. Perfectly captured in stunning realization. It’s clear the director was beyond passionate about this films tone and atmosphere. Every set sucks you into the narrative, every object and decoration, and the costumes, all perfection. Mesmerizing.

The longer I sit thinking about Guillermo Del Toros @realgdt.bsky.social Frankenstein, the more my love for it grows. When it first ended I felt loved it. Now a few days later, I think I’m ready to admit it is an absolute masterpiece. Tied with Pan’s Labyrinth for Del Toro’s best work to date.

The marketing for the new horror film “Together” is blowing up me feeds, and I won’t lie, it’s working. This movie looks sick. I’m excited to see it and have it ruin my life forever.

Punk rock was always about standing up against oppressors and fighting for people to be treated with respect. Fighting fascism, corporate greed, and hate. So yes, Superman is Punk as Hell, and I now am a firm believer in this movie, and striving to be like Superman every day I wake up.

In a world where masculinity is being threatened constantly by toxic traits and terrible representation, we have a movie that shows the most masculine thing you can do is be kind. Know right from wrong, and help people wherever you can. Superman begs us to be the best version of ourselves.
