Early autumn sunshine in a hidden patch of woodland. Roe deer hide here, but you won't see them until they bolt.

Popped into Ian McKellen's pub to admire Gandalf's staff and on the tube home saw the man himself. He was storming through Bank station with proper 'Gandalf on a mission' energy. Great to see him.

Did some volunteering yesterday to improve the biodiversity of a couple of local hay meadows. This is a bordering meadow that they are aiming to imitate... Buzzing with life.

I don't know who planted this little woodland 20 or 30 years ago, but it's full of wildflowers now. Bluebells, red campion and honeysuckle.

A secret stream through the ramsons and clay. It crosses Icknield Street just beyond this section.. Strange to think of Romans watering their horses here two thousand years ago.

I can't get enough of this time of year. Would literally live in the woods if I could.

Been enjoying these eldritch tales, especially the ones set in real woods that are still visitable a hundred years after the stories were written, like Wistman's Wood...

The wildlife corner on my allotment plot is looking lush already. Hoping to see damselfly larvae in the pond and moths on the red champion. #nature

Ivy-leaved toadflax on York's medieval walls. It is actually a more recent addition to the landscape than the walls themselves, as it was first recorded in the wild in the 17th Century.

A path alongside the A38 gives a hint of what was here before. Wild garlic and wood anemones.
