It’s as if Steeves objects to the premise of the question itself, to accepting the terms of the neoliberal market and its hold on our personhoods. The market is an f-boy ex not worth his time. Other independent presses like Coach House and Porcupine’s Quill print their own books—Gaspereau uses a paper named for Coach House. But Steeves operates at the highest existential stakes: book making as proof for what matters while we’re alive.
