I think more context behind what specifically isn't working might help. But from an engineering perspective, the teeth on both rack and gear are too thick.

There's not enough clearance to allow smooth motion, most gear teeth are narrower at the tip than the base, rather that the same thickness.

Just look at that spike!
A screenshot from down detector dot com that shows discord outages reported in the last 24 hours. The left side of the chart tracks number of reports, starting at zero on the bottom, and it goes up to fifty thousand at the top. The bottom side of the chart tracks time, starting at twelve PM noon, and ends at ten PM, due to the screenshot being cut off from the full length of the chart. The report count is completely empty until approximately nine PM, at which point there was a spike of discord outage reports totalling to nearly fifty thousand. The number of reports dropped over the next hour until at the ten PM mark, the report count drops back down to near zero.

I may or may not be streaming today. I went out with familly to the coast, walked around some, bought some stuff, had some lunch, went to a different part of the coast and did the same thing, minus the lunch part. Then we went shopping. I may or may not have exhausted my spoons for today, we'll find out in 2 hours when I'm supposed to start. As someone on the spectrum, I think this adequately sums up my feeling on this matter.
Peter Griffin from Family Guy taking, and loading, a shotgun from his car, and then walking in the direction of someones house. He is saying "I just wanna talk to him.", while his daughter Meg Griffin is asking "Why do you have a shotgun?". Peter keeps repeating "I just wanna talk to him." the entire way to the house, while Meg keeps asking him to put the gun away, and explaining that it is not him (the victim-to-be's fault) and that it (whatever it was) is an accident. When Peter finally reaches the door, his line changes from "I just wanna talk to him." to "I just wanna shoot him.", and then the door opens. The GIF repeats before anything more happens.
