Our results speak to two theoretical concepts: the ‘discouraged worker effect’ and ‘hedging’.Especially students from lower-status families in tight local labour markets are discouraged from entering VET and continue in school thereby increasing their advantages on the VET market.

However, due to missing data in public transport areas and due to the fact that they are absolutely not comparable in size and population, our good old friends the administrative districts (Kreise), did a much better job in predicting whether students aspire to and actually enter vocational training

...which allows to aggregate data in public transport areas (Verkehrsverbünden). Aaaand we were convinced that this is super cool because it displays the real-life accessibilities of young people

Can relate to that, 'though my handle is actually my initials. My parents were all in favour of first names with 'V' but didn't want their daughter's initials to be a brand 🚗 (VW). Well, they wisely chose what it is, which is not at all related to anything commercial 🤷🏼‍♀️
