If I stopped and cast off now, I would have knit a sock! I’m going to make it longer and do a cuff, and then hopefully manage to make a matching one, but I’m very excited about knitting my first ever sock!! 🧶🧦

This map really makes the desert southwest extremely apparent.

There’s a standard map scale bar in the top left above the map. And then in the top right is the whole point of the map, “Average Flow in cubic feet per second (cfs):” above a series of numbers from 1,000 on the left to 650,000 on the right. Below the numbers is a line of blue that is very thin on the left, and increases in line thickness with each number increase until it’s quite thick on the right. And finally we come to the focal point of the map, the river overlay in blue lines with all the different line thicknesses (the thickest blue line is of course the main part of the Mississippi River). The east coast is absolutely riddled with blue lines, with lots of small ones heading east off the Appalachians to the Atlantic, and then all the tributaries to the Mississippi west of the Appalachians. Theres some small rivers also leading to the Gulf of Mexico from the southern states, and some leading to the Pacific along the west coast. There’s Columbia River in the NW is the second thickest line on the map. Theres a stark decrease in number of rivers on the west half of the map, with only a few cutting across the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. Notable major rivers are the Missouri (feeding into the Mississippi), the Snake (feeding into the Columbia), the Rio Grande, and the Colorado. (None of the rivers are labeled on the map.) The desert southwest really is a stark contrast in scarcity and thinness of the blue lines marking the rivers when compared to the east half of the map and the NW corner. Nevada, in particular, is barren and almost entirely devoid of blue lines. It’s a very dry bunch of states.

Son was getting snake bite piercings today so I decided to finally get my helix done. Hopefully it heals ok, I’ve never had a cartilage piercing before so I’m not sure how it’ll do with healing.

Another friendly reminder to always use sun protection, so that you too don’t end up having to deal with getting suspicious cancerous/pre-cancerous moles carved out of you.
Some skin on my chest where a mole was removed, it is red and irritated around the excision site, and the edges of the hole are held together by four stitches made with black stitches thread.

The water has receded from about half of the yard, the dog’s food bowl is no longer floating, but there is still a lot of water there.

A patio, half cement and half pavers, most of it covered in a fair bit of water, with the reflection of some trees and palm branches in the water over the pavers. A rigid heddle loom with soft teal and white stripes as the warp, and navy blue yarn for the weft, making a diamond twill pattern when viewed from the front and above. The same loom with the same weaving on it from a side angle where it’s very hard to see most of the diamonds.

We’ve had a lovely storm today, loads of rain and even some tiny hail at one point. It’s only 81°F/27°C outside and the rain is actually cool to the touch!

Took my dog for a walk this morning for the first time since I broke my ankle last year. She was very excited until we saw the mail truck which she was extremely distrustful of (she is scared of white trucks). I was reminded that 9:30 in the morning is still too late to walk here now, way too hot.

My eldest son and I spent some time chopping the broken branches down so we could haul them out from the mess they’d made in the corner of the yard in the big dust storm recently. It was too hot to finish (102°F/39°C) so we stopped for the day.

There is a large dead tree in the corner that splits into several main trunk branches at the base, and several branches of the next-door neighbor’s live tree with lots of green leaves are intermingling with its dead trunks. The fake lawn is covered with broken branches from both trees. The corner of the wall is visible though heavily shadowed. The sky is a beautiful bright blue.

Normally you can see the cinder block wall all the way around the corner, all that foliage in front of it is broken branches.
A small yard of fake grass with a very large dead fallen branch across it. On the opposite edge of the yard is a mess of broken branches but you can’t really tell they’ve broken off the trees above. A closer photo of the trees and broken branches. It’s a little easier to tell they’re broken in this photo. There’s a tiny bit of the hammock that is under the tree visible. It really just looks like a mess of green, along with gray and brown branches from the jacaranda and ficus trees.

Almost everyone I know has lovely long nailbeds on their fingers, and reasonably long nailbeds on their toes. But I got my grandma’s fingers and nails, and my nailbeds are short and stubby and are wider at the top than at the bottom and it makes finding false nails that fit rather difficult.
My hand held up above me, a ceiling fan and vent are visible on the ceiling, and an arched doorway with a curtain partway down is visible in the wall. I’m wearing a silver ring with moon phases imprinted in it. My palm looks disproportionately large due to lens distortion. My fingers are on the short side, and my nail beds are very short and stubby, as are my fingernails which I keep trimmed quite short.

I got to go watch the theater stream of Jin’s concert yesterday, which was a blast. It was the first BTS thing I’ve gotten to do outside of my house for the last 9 months. The only sad part was nobody I know was able to come with me.

CW: molting tarantula (spider) photos. I’ve marked them as graphic in hopes of people who don’t want to see them not having to see them. I want to cry over missing the last stretches and wiggles, even though my husband is trying to film it for me. It’s really fascinating to watch the process.
A Honduran curly-haired tarantula near the beginning of her molt, laying on her back in her enclosure. You can see thinned/translucent bits of her exoskeleton at her leg joints. She is a dark brown/black color with white hairs. Her abdomen is towards the bottom of the photo and you can see her spinnerets. Her substrate is a medium chocolate brown with lots of visible small pieces of bark. Our tarantula near the end of her molt, photo taken from the side, where she has split her old exoskeleton and is pushing it off her. Her new body is a rich black color, with lots of fluffy white hairs. You can see her new fangs, white with red tips, on the left side of the photo. They will darken as they harden and eventually will be a shiny black color.

Each wedge has a color and a label, the colors fill up the rings to indicate how much your quiz ratings lean towards that result. Starting from the upper left and going clockwise, the wedges are: Upper Class (blue), Upper Middle Class (teal), Middle Class (green), Lower Middle Class (purple), and Lower Class (yellow). All of my wedges are either completely filled or almost completely filled with their colors. At the bottom the text says “Your food choices could not be tied to any one social class.” Food is great, y’all.

I always do 4-1-3-5-2-4, but I got curious so did all the others. Some of them were very awkward and took a lot of concentration to make sure I was drawing the correct lines first! Some of the messiness is from feeling confident and drawing fast, and some of it is from it being very awkward to draw.

Before I put my glasses on this morning, when things were even blurrier than this photo, I looked at this dark spot and thought, “Oh, shit, what happened to my foot?!” And then a second later I remembered it’s (one of) my surgery scar(s) from breaking my ankle in November. 😂

It turns out we had a lot of taster bottles of whiskey, so I tasted all of them except for the 2 bourbons, though it turns out normal Jack Daniel’s is bourbon as well. My favorite was the 12 year aged Scotch, really good in a little taster glass with a single ice cube, paired great w/ the cookies.

Two of the bottles in the back row are bourbon, which tastes very bitter to me because of some compound in the barrels, so I didn’t taste those. There is also a roll of paper towels, a salt and pepper shaker, and a cooling rack covered in parchment paper and cookies all in the background as well. Most of the photo is out of focus.

For Yoongi day I am wearing my size-too-large red Italian leather shoes because I’m trying out wearing just my ankle brace today, no walking boot! I’m also wearing my “Min Yoongi is a cat, didn’t you know that?” shirt, and my black bucket hat.
A pair of bright red leather high-tops with white soles and a bit of the white interior peaking out around the top. The laces are also red. There are functional zippers on both sides of the laces on the shoes. The feet wearing the shoes are mine, and they have black socks on. A black ankle brace is peeking out from the top of the right shoe. The feet are resting on a tan tile floor, heels close together and toes up in the air and angled out slightly.

I did not take a photo of the fixture when it was still on the ceiling with the glass dome almost entirely full of gross brown water, but here are some photos of the aftermath of the fixture after I dumped the water out! And yes, that is water *inside* that lightbulb.
One of those glass crystal-cut globe light fixture things, with one LED bulb and one incandescent bulb resting in the glass that is sitting on the counter. Above it I am holding the base(?) of the fixture—the part with the wires and where the bulbs get screwed in, you know. The sockets for the bulbs are grody as if they’ve been sitting in nasty water for weeks, which they have been. I am holding the LED bulb over the top of the light fixture base(?)—the side that goes against the ceiling. The fixture is grody, the base of the bulb has hard water deposits/corrosion going on, and through the translucent part of the bulb you can see that it is maybe half full of water. I don’t know how water got in the bulb, I don’t know how to get it out of the bulb, so I’m just gonna let it dry out probably before I throw it away.

This Jumbo Rainbows Lucky Charms makes my milk turn the same color as the bowl I’m eating it out of.

A screenshot of a 10-day weather forecast for my part of the Greater Phoenix Area in Arizona. The background is sky blue with a slightly darker blue overlay where all the info is. Low temps range from 76°F to 81°F, with high temps range from 103°F to 110°F. Every day is forecasted to be sunny. The days are listed on the left with the common three letter abbreviations, starting with Today, and then sequentially from Thu on. In between each of the listed low temps and high temps is a bar that ranges in color from yellow to red, and covers a portion of a slightly darker blue bar to indicate how the temperature range compares to the previous day. The bar for Friday the 20th covers almost the entirety of the darker blue bar, the temp range that day is 77° to 110°F. (That is 25° to 43°C, if you are part of the majority of the world that uses Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.) It’s not shown on the image, but the relative humidity forecast ranges from 10% to 16% over the next 10 days. No wonder my lips are horribly chapped constantly.

A terribly busy photo of a purple walking cane resting on my bent left knee in front of several bookcases full of books. I’m wearing blue jeans, and my bare right foot with all its scars and weird toe positions is visible in the far distance as I’m laying in my bed very tired after a long and productive day. The cane handle is black and very out of focus, too short of a depth of field for the shot, really, but what can you expect from a phone camera? The foot of the cane is also black and is relatively large with four bits sticking out kind of like flower petals. They let the cane stand up on its own.
