"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Studies on the use of research evidence in policy and practice encourage approaches where the 1) line between knowledge producer and knowledge user is blurred, 2) assumptions underlying the research are critiqued, and 3) investments in both relational AND technical infrastructures are prioritized.

"Researchers are socialized to share only the knowledge they produce" #aaronecarroll #discience24 But how do we engage with, critique, and use knowledge accumlated over time and from different sources to make a difference? @wtgrantfdn.bsky.social
