What's the idea? Even if you can't make it right now, writing up a design doc could be helpful and fun

We've seen it at least twice, once when Oscar switches in after Omen loses an arm, and once when Oscar switches in right before Omen loses a leg

Yeah, except her franchise is being adapted into a new TV show in 2027. It's not like HP or its author is completely irrelevant now. Dismissing Harry Potter as 'from 20 years ago' is pretty foolish, since it's definitely still present in pop culture

Hm, that says a lot about the environmental cost of an average American's meat consumption

Yeah, we probably both have better things to be doing. But I won't counter that example by pointing out that country's don't seem to ever achieve an inflation rate of 0%. A small level of inflation is a desirable goal for many economists

they understand one complicated thing, that they easily understand all other complex things. That's simply not how it works.

You don't have to flex your credentials at me. I'm pursuing a Masters in a computer science field, it's not as if you're the only person who does math. And I majored in CS and English in undergrad, so let me tell you right now, one of the biggest mistakes STEM people make is assuming that just

in viewed those things as essential. But ultimately, the more general definitions capture that AS well as leaving space to capture analogous sociological structures in other cultures, something which the old definition could not do because it was written uncritically with the baggage of its author
February 24, 2025 at 4:04 AM
You know, just saying "this is arbitrary and meaningless" because you don't understand it doesn't actually substitute your belief for fact. Traditional dictionaries did often include sex as a defining characteristic of gender, but that's because the prevailing societal understanding they were made
February 24, 2025 at 4:03 AM
So... Not only is this the 5th edition of a modern dictionary (and its primary definitions are about grammatical gender), the third definition airs on the side of "gender is sex". Which... does not allow for the notion of transition. Do you support trans rights? What do you even believe in???
February 24, 2025 at 4:01 AM
Well, that's great, but... phrasing? When it aligns with what you want, it's "true consensus", but when it disagrees with you it's "people who believe the same as you". It seems as if you're not actually acknowledging what I'm saying
February 24, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Because this also just does not align with what seems like your primary paranoia, which is minors getting operations. But if you've just been a responsibility advocate this whole time, I don't even know
February 24, 2025 at 3:43 AM
Why don't you define gender then. If we've been talking about society, expectations, the ways we view ourselves versus how society places us in a predetermined role, and how that affects how we act and how we perceive ourselves, but you've been viewing gender as, like, prion score or something I stg
February 24, 2025 at 3:42 AM
That is a more pro trans take than I expected to hear from you? So, you do agree that, fundamentally, the biological sex of a person does not fundamentally dictate their gender?
February 24, 2025 at 3:30 AM
And I mean it as genuinely as I can. If your mind is so inflexible that you legitimately can't do more than perceive all things through the exact same framework... I don't know how to help you
February 24, 2025 at 3:29 AM
If you actually believe this in good faith, and can't manage to see the ways in which societal expectations and societal roles are fundamentally different from mental illness, you are... Well I've said this so many times now so I'll finally say what I mean, you are stupid
February 24, 2025 at 3:28 AM
other Indigenous American gender non-conforming social roles. They vary wildly, and are the root of the modern concept of 'two-spirits'. Now, I'm not an expert on any of this, but in terms of just providing "one example", it's trivially easy
February 24, 2025 at 3:26 AM
Gonna be honest, what you just said is absurd, but I'll play ball because there is a good handful of examples that, as an outsider are kind of cliche to cite, but nontheless: there's the indigenous Aleut's notion of ayagigux, which translates to 'man transformed into woman', among a good handful of

If you want to pretend that queerness has somehow still always been aligned with a bioessential gender binary, I don't even know what to tell you. That's just a paradoxical take, at its foundation. If you can't see this, then we really will be going around in circles forever.
February 24, 2025 at 3:11 AM
Transgressing the gender binary has always been a part of the community. I mean, even when a lot of the forward facing activists were still very binary-minded, historical celebrations of queerness have always, at the very least, been about resisting gender expectations defined by sex
February 24, 2025 at 3:10 AM
Claiming the idea that even in the US alone, people only began objecting to a strict gender binary aligned purely only sex 20 years ago is... Categorically ahistoric, and does explain a lot
February 24, 2025 at 3:06 AM
I mean, even if you were to buy that it was just a US liberal thing, the Stonewall Riots weren't TWENTY years ago lmao
February 24, 2025 at 3:05 AM
Yes. Because such a thing doesn't actually exist. If you're going to cast a net as wide as "the entirety of recorded history", then yes. There has not been a unified worldwide perception of gender. The fact that you just assume such a thing is telling
