ok so it must've been the sample rate, i had it at 48k to check some of the Sounds in Solidarity community pack samples for clipping and forgot to change it back. it sounds normal at 44.1k, i have no idea why the sample rate made such a drastic difference but it's a huge relief that that fixed it.

even more terrifying, running out of PLAYLIST tracks is not beyond the realm of possibility for this project (currently at 423 and fluctuating)

nevermind, that was mostly just in regards to designing a specific sound i had in mind for a moment in a song, which i have always been really bad at. the real problem is that i don't do aimless experimental sound design sessions as much as i used to
