The other thing that comes up for me with your post is that public health should never be done alone. Why can't we build community and personal supports within degree programs? No one should have to look behind the curtain and witness such horrors alone. Yet many of us do.

It is unsustainable

Mmmmm. Such heavy topics. And I'm maybe I'm projecting, but the nature of literature being unreachable is something I struggle with myself. The currency for PhD is papers most will never read. That issue stands out to me in public health. I feel trapped in doing work that is inherently non-impactful

You aren't alone in this! Totally understandable though. Those of us in public health walk around with the weight of the world (and community health) on our shoulders (and in our hearts). We see the ones who might have been saved 😢 sending love to you.

I have not transitioned to full-time yet. Still hunkered down in a 4 year contract with 2 remaining. 😮 I already lost the health insurance, so my yoga/mindfulness/writing is a possibility ... But an accountant last year said because I have so many losses (training) IRS would likely declare a hobby

🍀 awesome! Good luck to you! The biggest new idea I got from that book was the section on money. The term 'punk damage'. Trying to deal with the reality of capitalism and living like that is how things are. I am scared of the IRS and took all business expenses last year as personal losses 😑
