That’s very kind of you to say, but I’m still very much a learner and new to all of this. Not horror necessarily, but to talking about horror academically- if that makes sense!

LOVE THIS. Omg. Thank you so much for sending it my way!

I want to reply to everything, but I’m so new to this site that I don’t know how! I will have to check out all that you mentioned- it sounds fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing!

And I’m currently in a Ph.D. program! The program is Language and Literacy Education at UGA.

Not to dismiss his use of such things in his novel. That’s become my biggest issue with several extreme horror novels.

Oh gosh, no such thing! We’re all learners! That sounds incredible to me!

Yes indeed. And yeah, unfortunately that is true. However, my favorite novel by him is Cold Moon Over Babylon which includes a young girl coming back for revenge in the form of a really gross ghost, and I think that’s cool.

Khosa’s concept of the “alternative final girl” and how engaging with and responding to the alternative final girl can be perceived as a literacy practice or, more specifically, a literacy event. What do you focus on??

As of right now (I’m still very new to the program and haven’t had a lot of time to do much research) I am working with Stephen King’s Carrie. I would like to look into a lot of the classics, like by Michael McDowell, as well as young adult horror fiction. My term paper last semester discussed

I love that book! It was my first ever book purchase regarding any kind of philosophy of horror, and I’ve loved it ever since. Such a good read!

Thank you so much! I’m in the Language and Literacy Ph.D. program at UGA, and it’s such a wonderful program that really lets me take charge of what I want to research and focus on. I’m now known as the “horror lady”, and it’s a title I’m proud of.

Omg… brilliant!

As of right now, primarily focusing on women characters, and I’m also looking at young adult horror fiction and researching about young girls as well. However, once this article/proposal is written, I plan to branch out for sure!

Oh my gosh, absolutely! I’m presenting at the Festival of Monsters, and my panel is focusing on how Carrie (from the Stephen King novel, Carrie) nourishes (which is a theme of the conference) her need for vengeance through violent acts, which in turn provides her a sense of agency. I love it!

This sounds fascinating! I’d love to hear more!

This is so good to know! Thank you! It’s all research for my PhD program.
