When everything is awful, at least there are cats.

Got to play #Shadowrun for the first time in years yesterday, which was a lot of fun. Also first time #roleplaying in person in years. The stress of this was alleviated by 13(!) rescue #cats lording over the host's property, so we had between 1 and 5 cats on or around the table at all times.

The stray unfixed boy-cat we've been trying to catch came to visit/yell for a bit, strategically while I was busy cooking.

Just finished The Nice House by the Sea Vol 1, which along with W0rldtr33, Something is Killing the Children, et al. has cemented @jamesthefourth.bsky.social as one of my favourites. Top tier.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps was pretty solid if a bit bland, and far above all previous efforts. Its own aesthetic, less undercutting of emotional heft with one-liners, and all four played a part, rather than Thing punch, Johnny burn, etc, though Ben Grimm's part was quieter than the rest.

Myrddin and Morrigan are both in rough shape, her because of a violent cat attack, him unsure but enough to need a vet today, and so she was just cleaning him and is cuddled into his fluff and my heart is breaking at the adorable.

I wanted to like Superman and parts of it were great (Gathegi as Mr Terrific, Hoult as Luthor, actually understanding what Superman is meant to be) but I struggled with the caricature, exposition, and monologuing, not to mention the tone. It's not a bad film but I couldn't enjoy it much.

Good but sad day as these little babies head off to their new home. They've been a lovely addition to our household, if you ask anyone but Tempest.

People at work invited me to join the book club as I always have my nose in one, but they all seem to be reading classy literary works and here's me not sure how to join the conversation:

Productive evening is productive. Death Stranding is great, can't wait to play the second one.

28 Years Later is a worthy addition to the franchise; a bit ragged, a bit scrappy, a bit philosophical, a bit funny, with a sudden, screeching change in tone come the finale that I'm still facepalming about and yet, ridiculous as it was, it somehow didn't spoil the film. Odd but worthwhile.

In any other action franchise, #Ballerina would have been pretty great. In the John Wick franchise, it ranged from excellent to trying too hard, and was kneecapped by the character being a beginner and John Wick himself literally showing up to show how it's done, undermining itself somewhat.

The couriers were kind today (already have a copy of Beyond Redemption, which is why it's omitted). Getting my grimdark fix.

With Death Stranding II on the way, time to give the first walking simulator a spin. Loving it so far. Gorgeous and weird.

Down to our final two rescue kittens, Tiramisu and Persephone, who are beyond adorable together. Need to find a forever home that'll take them as a pair!

My job is all peaks and troughs, spikes of frantic madness and long, empty days in between.

And in the quiet times, I'm not allowed to read so whatever book I have just sits there staring at me, in this case literally. Judging.

#Thunderbolts* is an example of #Marvel getting the recipe mainly right; some shenanigans, a lot of humour, a lot of action, and a splash of darkness, all wrapped around a character-driven storyline that largely avoids bad writing (ignoring de Fontaine, the only real let-down). A very good time.

Refilled the litters this morning, and the kittens decided they were comfy beds.

In a sad turn of events, my #D&D group is effectively dead at level 19, so close to the first-time-getting-there level 20 we were all aiming for. So here's the glow-up my Aasimar Paladin had along the way. Time to find a new game.

#Sinners is blood, grime, sex, and music, nodding at From Dusk Til Dawn but with a lot more to say about racism, religion, and more. It's a bit raw, a bit messy, and deliciously cast and performed, with a perspective not found in typical Hollywood fare.

Don't get up as soon as the credits roll.

Just woke up from surgery to remove a lipoma from my shoulder. Looking forward to getting home and piling kitties on my lap, but in the meantime, some grimdark while I wait.

Yeaaaaaaaah...may have been a bit impulsive.

So this happened. Almost dumped on my face strapped to 72kg of dumbbells. Seems my recent consideration of upgrading and associated product research has been fortuitous timing.

Tempest's favourite spot, purring away and kneading her lil' paws.
