I think what’s also cool about the card design is Wan Shi Tong tries to make sure no one escapes the library once he learns of Sokka and the others true intentions which translates so well to making sure that a card from any zone will stay trapped in the library! FLAVOR!

State based actions will check the devotion when all the creatures come in before the ETBs even hit the stack, Purphoros will become a creature and Dress Down says, “Hey that’s not a new ability you gained and creatures lose all abilities” so no ability, no damage.

Fascinating. Because we are also debating the time stamp of the Dress Down and its ruling that a creature gaining an ability after Dress Down has resolved doesn’t remove the gained ability but Purphoros wasn’t a creature and didn’t technically ‘gain’ anything new, just changed what it was.

And that’s because Purphoros becoming a creature is on layer 4 and Dress Down happens on layer 6?

PS - I hate layers.

1) When does Purphoros become a creature?
2) Will he lose his abillites to Dress Down after devotion is checked because he was not a creature prior?
3) The ETB damage goes on the stack or not because he is a creature but with no abilities, or isn't a creature yet and therefore gets the triggers.
