2025 was trash. And I’m conflicted on whether I can find joy in a World Cup that will also be trash in 2026

Life’s been pretty shit, but i share a work space with the the most wholesome gen-z’er ever created. Someone recommended the book The Bell Jar at work, she waited for them to walk away and said “don’t read that, that’s what performative men read when they want to pretend they’re feminists”

Every time I see a functioning trolley in a movie, it makes me think about how we’ve regressed as a society. We used to be a proper country, a proper country

“Why are folks getting dumber?” Because they don’t read. “Why aren’t men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?” Because they don’t read. “Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?” “Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?” Because they don’t read. Because they don’t read.

If I have to leave Hartford, it had better be a good reason. Seeing Silvana Estrada was a good reason to be in New York City

Learning in school is not enough. You must continue to teach yourself throughout your life. Study history, read myths, memorize poems, get acquainted with the greatest philosophers & writers. In an age when tech is cooking many brains, we need an army of autodidacts.

Someone at work went to a Morgan Wallen concert. I recognized the name but really don’t know anything about them. As such I said “I know of them, but not any of their songs” to which my friend immediately responded with “Morgan is a guy so he’s a he.” And I didn’t have the time to unpack that.

Riddle me this: we can afford a basketball team but not statewide lunch for kids?

I don’t mean to sound elitist, but the amount of times I ask people if they’ve read a book that I assume is fairly common only to find out they’ve never heard of it is super concerning. Like what do you mean you’ve never read A Series of Unfortunate Events?

Im really not happy that my little Argentinean friend has slowly tricked me into listening to Cumbia music voluntarily. Friendship is a trap

Yesterday, a long time friend was giving me grief for choosing a career in public service even though I could (theoretically) make more money else where. My response was “if everyone thought that, nobody would do public service or help others”

It’s always amazing that I never realize I was cleated during a soccer game until I’m sitting still and awkwardly brushing up against it

The amount of times my friends don’t get my musical/broadway references really makes me think I need new friends.

If you have suffered emotional damage from reading the Throne of Glass Series, you too might be entitled to financial compensation.

Lewis and Tolkien had it exactly right: spend time in nature, go for long leisurely walks, read widely and often, gather a small circle of friends who will love and support you, pursue your niche creative projects and make your life a constant adventure of delight and learning.

not to defend the robber barons but Andrew Carnegie, the richest man of his era, gave away 90 percent of his wealth and funded the building of 2,811 libraries, and I’m afraid the current crop of oligarchs isn’t sending their best.
