Unfortunately the last stage in Canucks fandom is usually hope -> disappointment ☹️

Agree that it is very difficult to obtain guys with his ceiling. Hopefully they have enough certainty in the situation to make the right call.
Also helps sway things if the potential returns are as bad as the rumours suggest.

There is the risk that you trade him and he returns to a consistent, elite player. But of course there is also risk that he’ll stay closer to this level for 8 x $11.5, which would be dire indeed.
I used to think the chances of the latter were low, but I’m not so sure anymore.

Problem for me is he appears to lunge forward after the trip. Maybe he was just still trying to reach for the puck, but it wasn’t a natural fall.

It’s a good question. When asked, JR said he prefers to sign guys because it’s easier to trade assets with know $$.
I have to believe both 40/9 were on better terms when they signed and that something happened since then to change that.

Idk, I don’t see it as mysterious really. Playing hard team D is tough and takes focus. Maybe it’s the off ice issues, maybe it’s just too hard, but they aren’t putting in the effort required.
For the ‘tending and O puck luck, it just regressed to the mean (and Demko hurt).
