4/ The ideal model:
✅ Free medicines in government hospitals
#JanAushadhi stores near private clinics

The reason? No brand names — only the salt name. That means no brand premium, no marketing markup, no middle-person cuts. That’s how the cost comes down. #JanAushadhi #Health4All #Access2Medicines

Trade must serve the public, not corporate profit.

We need:
✅ Transparency
✅ Parliamentary debate before signing
✅ Protection of India’s pro-public health laws
October 12, 2025 at 6:38 AM
The result?
❌ Higher medicine prices
❌ Poorer access to treatment
❌ Millions pushed into poverty by health costs

These FTAs demand changes to India’s patent laws —adding more barriers & extending monopolies for Big Pharma.

They are negotiated in secrecy. The public only sees the text after it’s signed. No public debate. No parliamentary oversight.

📌 Sofosbuvir—hepatitis C cure

It was once priced at $1,000 per pill in the US!

(The then) price tag: 34,00,000 INR
Cost to make: 2400 INR

Indian generics brought the cost down by over 99%.

The takeaway? Breaking monopolies works.

📌 Humira—used for arthritis & autoimmune diseases

AbbVie made billions. But held back generics through evergreening patents. It filed more than 200 patents, most of them after Humira was already in the market.

This is legalised profiteering.

📌 Trikafta—a cystic fibrosis drug by Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Life-saving for many.

📌Lenacapavir—a long-acting HIV drug.

It could be game-changing for millions. It cures and prevents. But Gilead Sciences has blocked access in countries like India through high prices and patents.

Price tag: 38,50,000 INR
Actual cost to make: 3500 INR
