It’s from far away so it’s hard to make out individual people or see what they’re doing, but most of the shirtless males are swinging t-shirts above their heads. Most people not in the cluster are wearing coats and hats because it’s a night game in November.

My son finally got to come home yesterday after a month in the hospital for high-dose chemo, bone marrow transplant, and 20+ days in isolation for a bacterial colonization.
We’re back at the hospital for routine labs and this Halloween treat has caused a crashout due to his dairy allergy.
A bald boy of very nearly 4 years, sleeping shirtless in a hospital bed. He has multiple tubes (one from an accessed central line port, two from a “broviac” port) running from his chest, as well as heart monitoring stickers and wires. Instructions for a “CREATE YOUR OWN SPIDER DONUT” craft/treat. In the background is what appears to be a clinical setting.

Don’t take this as a suggestion that some stuff isn’t extremely messed up about health insurance in this country (like the existence of HSAs, for one; like, sure you should use them, but they exist for people who don’t believe in taxes and defy the concept of insurance), but: I’m paying for this
3-year-old boy with longish, dirty blond hair, in a hospital ER waiting room. He looks like his left eye is recovering from a black eye. The boy, shirtless, with a sleeve on his arm covering a PICC which is connected to IV pumps (4 in all) on a pole behind him. He also has a port installed in his chest; it’s accessed and covered with a protective dressing. He is smiling and applying stickers to a blue piece of fabric that resembles a superhero’s cape. The boy is now fully bald, and has an NG tube coming out of his nose and taped to the left side of his face. He’s wearing a shirt this time, it’s yellow and bears the slogan “Block Out Cancer” on the chest. He’s standing on a patio, smiling, and holding a miniature flag with a yellow ribbon and the slogan “Block Out Cancer”. A monarch butterfly has alit on the flag and is spreading its wings. A more elaborate IV pole than the one seen before. This one holds a total of 11 IV pumps and one pump used to slowly push feeds through an NG tube. It’s inside a hospital room with decorations including a novelty foam Detroit Tigers paw.

It depends what it sucks at. I knew I wanted lumens so I got one with 3400, but it only has HDMI, no battery, no autofocus, and it’s annoying to set up. I would need to build or buy some kind of tripod for it if I used it more. That’s an Optoma HD27E.

We spent a week in Athens and a week on Santorini, and the only times I felt like “I should’ve actually used the Rosetta Stone we bought” were
- one not-particularly-prominent archaeological site in Athens
- one seaside restaurant in Santorini where there was just this one waiter (it went fine)

Me in sunglasses with considerably less gray hair, with my arm over the shoulder of an older Greek guy. That’s what I kept thinking driving past this on Plymouth for months!

The views from Mott can be pretty good, a light reprieve from the feeling of lying to your son that he’s being sedated for more scans and having him wake up recovering from abdominal surgery.

Absentee balloting is already under way since about 6/26, no? City Council approved the ballot language on 3/5/25. Governor Whitmer signed off on it by 4/21/25. While Council worked to make the calendar tight, anyone who wanted to challenge this in court should have done so pretty quickly after March 5th, rather than skulking around for a headline in mid-July.”

We had a whole family of Eastern Screech Owls hanging around when the little ones were too young and poofy to fly, but we haven’t seen them in weeks.

Odd that someone would feel it was important to let his allies and acquaintances know that their absentee ballots wouldn’t be forwarded to other addresses by the USPS. Surely people interested in our very local election would be home sometime in the next month 🤨
