In 1854 the Blue Ridge RR was to connect South Carolina to Tennessee. Work stopped in 1859 because of finances. Visited one of the tunnels today in NE Georgia and checked out the remains of the camp for 200 workers who tried to blast it through the mountains. Will be back this fall for excavations.

Had a good day doing field work monitoring sites. One of the best parts of my job is discovering cool, unexpected spots like this waterfall.

Good two days in the field at Scull Shoals talking about stabilization, interpretation, and community engagement. And nerding out trying to work out exactly how the power plant for the factory ran on water power and where all three dams were actually located.

Yesterday we wrapped up our public archaeology project. Continued to find features which left us scrambling to try to finish as it threatened to dump rain. Great site and a really fun week. #archaeology

After a rain day we were back hard at it on our public archaeology project. Cartersville pottery associated with numerous rock features scattered across four meters or more. Lots of good work, just hope rain holds off tomorrow so we can finish. #archaeology

Day two of our public archaeology excavation. Another feature and some nice pottery. Unfortunately tomorrow will be a rain day.

Finally got back to doing field work, but it was a mixed bag. Part of the day was briars and thick brush, reminding me why I wanted out of the business of doing timber sale surveys. But did get to finish in nice open pine.

I’ve been saying for a year now that this would happen one day.
