As Leslie observed in a speech to the Palestinian queer women’s group Aswat in 2007, countries from the US to Israel “use the experiences of women, of gays, of transgenders as pretexts for imperialist war,” even as they support anti-LGBT policies and countries that serve their interests.

The ADL is lashing out because its politics of fear and division have been resoundingly rejected by New Yorkers, who chose a Mamdani campaign with a vision of shared liberation and mutual support.

It was inevitable they would target Mamdani, a wildly popular leader who consistently held Israel to account as a genocidal apartheid state. We should be clear about why.
