This linguistic drift that drives me nuts. Like, here’s some of the coverage of “Oppenheimer” winning 7/13—that is, slightly over half—of the Oscars for which it was nominated. That’s very good, historically speaking, but objectively not a sweep! “Sweep” doesn’t just mean “win a lot”!

This kind of thing makes me so deeply sad and frustrated. Literally what do we do about someone like this? How do we make people whose understanding of the stakes is fundamentally broken understand?
