And this guy is a hero to young kids? Glad he got that red card last week

The government parties need to realise that there is a large cohort of centrist voters who will absolutely not vote for any politician who tries to make immigration policy changes/deportations their manifesto. Why chase the votes of xenophobes?

Well honestly, if I were a FG or FF councillor I wouldn’t be voting Maria Steen, Bob Geldof or Conor McGregor. It’s more likely that the candidates just weren’t good enough

MM should look inward. The reason people felt they had little choice is because both FF and FG put forward very poor candidates. They underestimated CC and they thought that people would just vote their candidate regardless. There was a laziness on their part.

I think Labour should have nominated Fergus Finlay but I’m sure there are others. Do you think she is the best candidate?

I suppose the question for Connolly is whether she is a Eurosceptic. She won’t be speaking for the Irish majority if she is continually critical of tge EU. We are out on a limb since Brexit and bail outs aside, there’s a diplomacy required as president that I really hope she possesses
October 5, 2025 at 8:36 AM
I’ve never been so underwhelmed by candidates in all my voting years. I envisage a low turnout with Connolly winning. Not sure she’s ideal though. I know on Bluesky she has a lot of support but SD/Labour could have picked a better candidate.

Well there’s no infrastructure to speak of so when he says they’ll suffer more attacks he means women, children, elderly and hospitals. Gaza has already been obliterated. This man has no shame and zero empathy

I don’t know Mary. He’s not far wrong. Her comment about the Germans this week was way off the mark for a potential president.
Not saying we have any great choices in this election but Catherine Connolly isn’t a perfect choice either.

He would also have the diplomacy required not to accuse the strongest European economy of war mongering at a time when Ireland is trying to maintain ties with the EU post brexit.
September 25, 2025 at 2:16 PM
Totally agree. I’ve never been less enthused about an election.
Disappointed with Labour. Should have run with Fergus Finlay
September 25, 2025 at 10:35 AM
I’d imagine he doesn’t need to worry about his problem because, as we say in Louth, with our awful accents “there’s askin’ and there’s gettin’ “
September 21, 2025 at 8:01 PM
Jesus wept! This is shaping up to be one of the worst presidential elections.
What a crap selection for the people of Ireland.

Two things aside from the obvious
1. Bon Petite
2. It’s hard to make bacon look unappetising but they managed it

Reports from doctors in Gaza of young boys presenting in ED with gunshots to their genitals. Doctors could only surmise that some kind of target practice “game” was played that day.
