In contrast, altmetrics, for all their imperfections, seem to better capture the true impact of a work—at least they reflect that people are actively engaging with its content.

Even citation counts, once considered reliable, have lost much of their meaning, as papers are often cited based only on their titles or abstracts.

Today, however, the very notion of what constitutes an A journal feels blurred. With large publishers having automated many aspects of their quality control, genuine indicators of excellence are harder to identify.
