13 years old. No one I knew played magic. Pokemon card fever had died down a few years earlier. I used to look inquisitively at the Kamigawa displays in the local nerd shop. On holiday, we popped into a random toy shop that happened to have some decks, and one impulse purchase later...

Like, what happened here? Two almost identical art briefs for two 3 drop black insect horrors, with "decrypted log" flavour text that only otherwise appears on the Thrumming Hivepool.

And yet one is a story spotlight? When did an insatiable skittermaw turn up in any of the stories?

Which kind of eye is your font displaying?

I love the similar Harold McNeill pieces from the same era

I've now looked at the numbers for "big gaps during normal sleeping hours" and it really doesn't look that abnormal any more. Goes to show how charts can be misleading!

People are sharing my hasty spreadsheet response to the question of what musk's tweeting habits look like as if I'm an authority on anything, and saying that musk must be in a drug addled hole never sleeping. The chart looks messy, but if you actually look at the numbers, its nothing especially bad.

my sheet was switching midday and midnight, so this is a cleaner more accurate version, but the same (lack of) pattern is evident

Edge of Eternities! There's going to be a sentient villainous black hole! What more could I want?

I had never noticed this little tree before! The tower isn't statically leaning, it's *actively falling over*!

oh cool, I'll probably put that in my "Allistair the Brigadier" Bant historic-matters Doctor Who / Detectives deck. It's a much better Displaced Dinosaurs because it affects pre-existing clues.

On boxing day I went for a family walk around Beningborough Hall here in Yorkshire. A lovely moody foggy day.

As a kid, I adored this comic version by Marcia Williams

@timesnewboman.com it seems rebrands are in the air. The bus company I use, First Bus, just changed from the old design on the left, to the new design on the right. Thoughts?

Yorkshire has a complex and colonial relationship with chocolate, sugar, and tea, but you can never take away our sweetened root extracts! (yes, rhubarb isn't a root but it might as well be)

It's nearly 2025 now. I suppose we could count the introduction of the "showcase" card frames in 2019 and the proliferation of non-standard frames through products like Secret Lair, but the pattern seeker in me really wants something to mark the start of the fourth decade of magic.

For the 20th anniversary (off by a year, with "Core 2015" in summer 2014) they released the... "2015 frame"? It doesn't have a good name, in part because it's mostly a subtle rework of the modern frame to make the collector's info a machine-readable white-on-black.

For the 10th anniversary with "8th Edition" in summer 2003, they released the modern frame, a complete redesign.

A follow-on from my thread on MtG formats: we are due a new card frame. The game started with its classic frame in summer 1993.
