I’m still doing Bad Poet even though I’ve been bad about doing it the past 10+ days and haven’t liked anything I did for a while. This is what came out today

Once again, I am doing Bad Poet, a poetry-writing challenge/workshop/experiment… I’ve been thinking about posting what I write for the 30 days. We got our first “unofficial-official” prompt and this is still a small space that won’t stake claim to my intellectual property, so I guess I’ll post here.
A page handwritten in black cursive that reads: 1/14/25 I’m sitting in the bed next to him, listening to him snore, a bit on edge when he shifts, his eyes open a bit before he lets out a sigh, and goes back to sleep - I am not used to writing around other people, despite having had to at many points, sharing journals with friends growing up, doing this Bad Poet thing a few times before. I went to a “writing club” at the library back in July, and I guess I faced the fear of writing in front of other people and sharing that writing with them looking at me. It wasn’t a bad group - I just felt I wasn’t dark enough… That may also be a fear - not being _____ enough. Latina, Black, Italian, Queer, ^Neurodivergent - all groups I probably fall into, but do I fall into any enough? I guess that’s where the hope comes in - I hope I do. Logically I know there is no real “enough” for anything - you are or you aren’t. That’s all It should be… and yet. His snoring is louder and more intense. It’s strangely soothing. I will sleep well tonight. This is definitely more of a journal entry than poem - that usually happens during Bad Poet, bur I don’t mind - I’m never sure I’m an artist. I’m just me in this moment - and there is nothing wrong with that. I want writing to be easier, to possibly take a little more importance in my day to day. I decided to come back to Bad Poet this year because I was inspired by the NY Neos “Best of 2024” and I felt like I had something to say again. Last year was too chill - no thoughts, just being. There are a lot more thoughts this year. I just want them down on paper, and possibly out in the world.
