I don't know what my purpose is here. Trying to make the best out of life's shitty situations. On this road of life, there are no lanes. My posts will float through the bluesky.

The face he makes when he's deep between the cushions of the love seat in the living room after midnight.

I post mostly to vent about the sad state of affairs, but I should also post other things. I've gotten into the hobby of obscure media, & this should make @ghostofgroucho.bsky.social happy. A VHS copy (I bought sealed) of Gabe Kaplan's live show on the life of Groucho Marx from the HBO presentation.

This corner was a doozy as a kid. Like playing Operation with more anxiety increasing sounds (especially if low on health!)

The customization is what really keeps me sticking to this game. I hope y'all will add some more features to uni customization (not just patterns). Like TV numbers/logos for the top of pads amongst other things. Here's an example of that. Working on a whole league of hodge podge teams 😄

Also, there is iconic music in the 3 Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Genesis. Chemical Plants music is up there in terms of my favorite song in all of the entire Genesis series. Sonic had that 90's "In your face" attitude & some of the music had that swagger as well. This track exemplifies that.

For example: I thought the bonus stage was an improvement from the flat rotational bonus stage in Sonic 1. It's less distracting visually and the concept plays nicely into the speed element of the character. It also kinda feels like a trailing camera view of running rails in the levels.

To me, the Sonic The Hedgehog (1-3) weren't big deviations in gameplay as their Nintendo mascot counterpart in the US (see gameplay lineage from SMB 1,2,3) but you can definitely see refinement and improvement in each game while maintaining the formula that worked.

I paid like $8 for a fully CIB (inserts & everything) at a store that sold vintage multimedia & collectibles. It was a deal then and still a deal now. Especially at most game stores at the time it'd be closer to $20. Which is why I would never buy a game even if I wanted it, if it was overpriced.

Time also has a way of freezing memories. This game will always be my sentimental favorite, one that I find enjoyment in revisiting. Just like returning the Master Sword to the Temple of Time to revisit an earlier point in life.

Plenty of things have eclipsed it's technical achievements. But in 1998, but reaching Hyrule Field for the first time was mind blowing. Expansive field with free choice as to where I went. In capturing this footage, I had a fleeting remembrance of that feeling I had in 1999.

I wound up purchasing it on a trip to San Antonio with saved birthday money in 1999 at a GameStop that had it on sale. I visited the Alamo, but remembered to buy the game that day. This is my original copy, still ticking today, scars and all. Still even has my save from back then!

If this game were to have one thing to leave as its legacy, it's probably this... The DK Rap! It even made its way into the Super Mario Movie. (Captured from my hardware using an old ElGato HD & RetroTink 5X)

Like a lot of adventure/platformers from the N64 era, the gameplay does show it's age a bit. At the time, it was acceptable. Developers were still learning the 3D space, setting standards, and the 2nd joystick for camera controls was still in its infancy as a concept.
