As is a (early) birthday tradition, went to get afternoon tea at my favourite local spot with hubby- The Oken Tea Rooms. It's always delicious! I still can't believe I get to live here sometimes.

I had to take that to get my indefinite leave to remain like 17ish years go. I have NO idea where this information is, but I literally couldn't have my visa without it, so... whyyyy? Might have to go through the ordeal of finding an advisor or solicitor again to help navigate. SUCKED last time

Peaceful protests *can* be successful (wiki the 1975 Icelandic Women's Strike) but there comes a point at which if there is no change but the need is great then one much assume the people with the power genuinely just don't care about the plight of the people. They are gaining too much from the suppression and will need to experience some disruption to their cushy lifestyle in order to take the requests seriously. (wiki just about anything in history.) There are too many groups being treated as inferior right now. There is some of the darkest parts of our history literally repeating themselves RIGHT NOW. Too many rights being denied. Too many people in danger. A great deal of the world is in turmoil. I will focus currently on my birth country: The United States of America, because it is where I spent most of my life and it is where many friends and family dear to me still reside. I live abroad and whether I like it or not people use me as a sounding board for the things my country does. I am expected to know and have an opinion on the things my large and far-reaching country does. So here is my opinion. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." 2nd screenshot of post by Amy Marie Taylor: That is in the document our country is founded on. At the beginning. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" This is part of a poem inscribed on a plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty. This is what my country means to me. The country was founded and built at the expense of minority lives. The red man displaced, the black man enslaved, the brown man used, the yellow man abused, the women left out. If you are offended, good. My country has done terrible things and has dark things in it's history. To only mention the exploration, frontier spirit, brave and hard working white men (so often the rhetoric) that saw the Americas as opportunity and hope is to do a disservice to how far our country has come. It is an injustice to the struggle and triumph over such terrible times that we have achieved. We have had struggle and we have overcome. I celebrate that. We are not yet perfect but we inch ever closer to equality. We band together with chants and memes and we envision our melting pot as being the best we can be. I like to think that we are scrappy and roughed-up but we mean well. I love all the cultures I grew up with. I love that in my country I knew people from all over the world that came to be together as a community. I love my America. This is religious persecution. This is discrimination of every kind on every level. Right now a corpse has more bodily autonomy than a woman. That was not said for shock value. Legally a dead body has more rights to keep its organs intact, even if harvesting those organs would save numerous lives that will otherwise die, than a living, breathing woman. There are legal citizens currently being denied entry into our country because they are from the "wrong" country. Because they are the "wrong" religion. None of this is my America. There have been peaceful protests. There are calls being made. Letters written. And there have been rioters. These rioters continue to be called out for hurting the cause and taking advantage. But I was reading today about past rioters. Like Emmeline Pankhurst who targeted property destruction intentionally to help win women the vote in England. Like the LA riots that boiled over and finally caused change in a community of corruption. Like the Boston Tea Party and how much tea was actually dumped. I don't just mean 342 chests, I mean how a single book-sized brick of tea then would have lasted a person/family a YEAR and they dumped $1,700,000 in today's money worth of that shit. Finished UK Traitors season 3. I'm still in love with Claudia, & my series favs were Frankie (SO stylish) and Alexander (SO charming). Satisfied w/ ending (except for the obvious regrets) and there were some really great moments all through.
