One protester in particular has gone ultra-viral for his brave confrontation of a group of California National Guard officers stationed outside the Los Angeles VA Clinic. The clinic is part of the complex that houses the LA Federal Building and the Metropolitan Detention Center, one of the focal points of the protests. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who is against President Trump's deployment of the National Guard to the city, said that the troops are only protecting federal property. "They're guarding the federal building here in downtown, and they're guarding the federal building in Westwood. Kristi Noem Targets “Marriage Fraud” — Pushes DHS Hotline To Report Separate Bedrooms Lisandra Gomez-Tate U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an agency of the Department of Homeland Security, shared a photo on X this week of a State Trooper escorting a handcuffed woman. The caption reads: “Marriage fraud is a federal crime. There will not be a happily ever after for this illegal alien who was ordered removed from the U.S. 14 years ago due to marriage fraud. She was taken into custody at our Orlando office by @ICEgov and our @FHPOrlando partners. Under @POTUS and @Sec_Noem, there are consequences for breaking immigration law.” DHS reshared the photo and added a Homeland Security phone number for people to “report marriage fraud.” The DHS agency’s X account is being inundated by MAGA supporters who are all reporting the same “tip,” suggesting that they pursue U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MI) and asserting she married her brother to help get him U.S. citizenship. (Omar has offered explanations to debunk the narrative about her second husband, a British citizen, saying: “Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive.”) As the Department of Justice explains, “The typical fact pattern in marriage fraud cases is that a U.S. citizen and an alien get married. They fulfill all state law requirements such as medical tests, licensing, and a ceremony. The snark in the suggestion derives from the “Where’s Melania?” meme, with its implicit suggestion that the Trumps do not, as the “marriage fraud” law requires, “live together as man and wife.” NOTE: DHS has set a target of apprehending 3,000 undocumented or illegal migrants per day in the U.S., a goal that is forcing ICE agents to go beyond targeting migrants guilty of criminal activity, a group that was the stated original target of the Trump administration. A compensating rallying cry among MAGA supporters of Trump’s more sweeping deportation efforts is the claim that any undocumented migrant is a criminal, having committed the crime of being undocumented — or “illegal.” An acute focus on marriage fraud further expands the deportation target base.

ICE agents target SoCal church after 'hearing Spanish speaking women in parking lot' Peter Rubinstein Federal agents conducted immigration-related abductions near two churches in the Downey neighborhood of Los Angeles Wednesday amid city protests against ICE raids that have captured global attention. The ICE agents made arrests at the Home Depot, L.A. Fitness, near the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church and at the Downey Memorial Christian Church, according to Councilmember Mario Trujillo. Downey city and faith leaders denounced the raids, which were performed by several agents wearing face coverings, displaying police insignias and refusing to give their names. An elderly man dropping his granddaughter off at Our Lady of Perpetual Help's school was detained on the sidewalk in front of the church's property. Another man outside Downey Memorial Christian Church was surrounded and arrested by immigration officers, Pastor Alfredo Lopez said. Downey faith leaders have joined more than 30 Southern California mayors in calling for an end to immigration raids. The pastor joined Senior Pastor Tanya Lopez and other community members in confronting the agents and repeatedly asking for their information, he said during a press conference. The agents refused to give their names and denied orders to leave the church parking lot. "When we said that we don’t want this in our property, this gentleman just shouted again, 'whole country is their property,'" Alfredo Lopez said. "When someone tells that to you with a weapon in their hands and in their body, that was a very clear message. And as a man of faith, that is not allowed and that is not correct and that stands against everything that our country stands for." Churches have typically been designated as safe zones from immigration raids and other law enforcement operations. However, the designation is more of a courtesy than a legal obligation. “Legally speaking ICE agents can go into the public spaces of churches, mosques, places of worship,” Loyola University law professor Jessica Levinson told KTLA. “The important distinction is whether or not you’re in a public place or a private place. In a public place, maybe it’s a parking lot, maybe it’s where you first enter a house of worship, then ICE agents can go and arrest people and they do not need warrants as long as they have probable cause.” One Los Angeles pastor said an ICE agent pointed their rifle at her and told her to "get back." Community member and witness Paulina told KTLA the agents were aggressive and had license plates on their vehicles from New Mexico and Texas. “The gentleman who they took was dark-skinned and only spoke Spanish,” she said. “They don’t care if you have papers, as long as you look like what they want you to look like, they’ll take you.” Tanya Lopez said one agent pointed their rifle at her and told her to "get back." It is not clear how many were abducted during ICE operations on Wednesday. Downey Mayor Hector Sosa is among 30 Southern California mayors calling for the end of immigration operations. The raids are part of Trump's promise to crackdown on immigration, and "border czar" Stephen Miller's reported instructions for ICE to ramp up its daily arrests to 3,000. “Our job as elected officials is public safety,” Trujillo said. “We would submit to you that these raids at Home Depots, restaurants, places of worship, or schools are not keeping our community safe. A federal judge in Texas blocked the Trump administration from summarily deporting migrants in the state under a rarely-used 18th-century wartime power with little or no due process, becoming the latest in a growing line of jurists to hold that President Donald Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) was unlawful. U.S. District Judge David Briones on Monday granted a request for a permanent injunction barring the government from removing Venezuelan migrants accused of being members of the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang to the notorious CECOT terrorist prison in El Salvador. In a 56-page order, Briones wrote that Trump’s proclamation was “hereby declared unlawful,” reasoning that the administration’s implementation of the executive order was “inconsistent with the AEA” and its statutory requirements. “Under the AEA, a president cannot unilaterally define what constitutes an invasion, summarily declare that a foreign nation or government has threatened or perpetrated an invasion or predatory incursion of the United States, identify alien enemies subject to detention or removal, and summarily remove them,” the judge wrote. Trump on March 15 became the first president since World War II to invoke the AEA, which authorizes him to summarily remove “natives, citizens, denizens, or subjects” of a “hostile nation or government” when there is “declared war” against it or when it has “perpetrated, attempted, or threatened against the territory of the United States” an “invasion or predatory incursion.” In a controversial and novel use of the power, Trump declared the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) had committed or attempted an “invasion” or “predatory incursion” such that any member of the group was summarily removable under the Act. The administration asserted that the gang constituted a “hybrid criminal state” for purposes of invoking the AEA. The court rejected the administration’s interpretation of the AEA and emphasized that proper invocation of the power requires an executive order that includes “sufficient factual statements” and other references enabling courts to “determine whether the conduct and events satisfy the conditions that support the invocation of the statute.” “This Court need not look beyond the four corners of [the president’s Proclamation] to find its severe deficiencies in comporting with the AEA,” Briones wrote. “Even accepting every assertion in [the Proclamation] as true, it does not rise to meet the plain, ordinary meanings of the statutory terms.” Following a brief overview on interpreting the language of a centuries-old statute, Briones explained that the terms “invasion” and “predatory incursion,” as used in the statute, require a “militarized effort against, and militarized intrusion into, the territory of the United States with the specific purpose of conquering or obtaining control over territory.” The alleged actions of TdA, according to the judge, were well outside the definitions of those terms. This Court also rejected the administration’s request to “broaden the meaning of these terms” in light of modern warfare tactics, with Briones writing that doing so would effectively render the AEA “irrelevant.” “The AEA was clearly not meant to be all-encompassing,” he wrote. “As such, this Court declines to stretch the AEA’s meaning so broadly that mass migration or criminal activities by some members of a particular nationality could qualify as an ‘invasion,’ and virtually any group, hailing from virtually any country, could be deemed alien enemies.” Briones’ analysis cited heavily to the order of another federal judge in Texas — Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez — who in April similarly found that the administration’s use of the AEA was illegal. “The court properly recognized that the Alien Enemies Act is a wartime measure that cannot be used during peacetime, much less without due process, to send people to a gulag-type prison in El Salvador,” Lee Gelernt, the deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project and the lead attorney in the case, said in a statement to local news nonprofit El Paso Matters. Federal judges in Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, and California have also issued court orders barring the administration from deportations under the AEA.

Musk's DOGE Goons Trashed Office and Left Drugs Behind Janna Brancolini Musk's DOGE goons left a huge mess at the office of a nonprofit they illegally tried to take over, with staff allegedly finding drugs and evidence of cockroaches in the building. The chief executive of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) said the organization's Washington, D.C., headquarters became infested with vermin on DOGE's watch. And after a federal judge ruled against DOGE's takeover and Musk's lackeys vacated the building, cleaning staff also found discarded marijuana, according to The Economist. A judge ruled last month that the "department" of government efficiency, the secretive cost-cutting initiative helmed by President Donald Trump's top donor Musk, didn't have the authority to seize the $500 million USIP headquarters or to fire the agency's employees. When the USIP's rightful leadership returned to their building for the first time in two months on May 22, they found water damage and evidence of rats and cockroaches in the building-problems they'd never had before, USIP's Acting President and CEO George Moose said in a sworn statement. Economist journalist Daniel Knowles-who reported that cleaners found "marijuana apparently thrown out by DOGE staffers"-shared a photo of the drugs on the social media platform Bluesky. The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment. It comes after a bombshell report on Musk's own alleged drug use during Trump's election campaign last year, with insiders claiming that the Tesla boss took Ecstasy, magic mushrooms, and confessed to taking so much ketamine that it affected his bladder. Although the USIP is an independent, non-executive branch agency with its own assets and endowment, Musk's team declared the institute "unnecessary" and tried to fire all of its employees in mid-March. When the employees-who maintained DOGE's actions were illegal-refused to leave, DOGE brought in armed agents from the FBI, the D.C. Metropolitan Police, the U.S. District Attorney's Office, and a private security firm to force them out. Having gained access to the building, DOGE then proceeded to wipe out USIP's IT systems, shred its documents, seize its funding, and take down the USIP website-including all of the research the agency had conducted over the past 40 years, one of its employees told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. After the takeover, Musk's 28-year-old minion Nate Cavanaugh-a college dropout with no experience in government or international affairs-was put in charge of the agency. Now, the newly reinstated USIP now has to clean up the mess created by DOGE-an office that was ostensibly tasked with rooting out abuse, waste, and fraud in the federal government, Maddow said on her show Monday night. "Because all of that was totally illegal, the folks at the U.S. Institute of Peace will have to repair everything and stand everything back up in order to even start to get back to where they were before this whole thing started," she said. US News Arizona ICE agents posed as city workers to trick their way into illegal immigrant’s home, neighbors claim: ‘Should be a crime’ By Alex Oliveira Published June 1, 2025, 4:07 p.m. ET Possible Arizona immigration officials posed as city utility workers while attempting to detain an undocumented immigrant at his home, a witness to the altercation claims. Two men dressed as electric company workers turned up in a south Tucson neighborhood Wednesday morning and began asking residents if they knew a Honduran man who lived on the street for over a decade, the Arizona Daily Star reported. The men claimed to be from Tucson Electric Power (TED) and told neighbors they were trying to provide the man with city services he’d asked for, neighbor Christine Cariño told the outlet. Neighbor Christine Cariño claimed immigration officers disguised themselves as city workers to try to get into a home. One of the men wore a reflective shirt to look like a city worker, video shows “He said, ‘We’re trying to find somebody that wanted a free estimate,’” claimed Cariño, who was watering her plants across the street. But she claimed the men were not wearing proper TED uniforms — one had a reflective work shirt and the other a black t-shirt — and became suspicious that the men weren’t who they said they were as they pressed for information about her neighbor. Then when they turned towards the Honduran man’s home she claimed to see a badge hidden under one of their shirts — and asked if they were from the Department of Homeland Security. “He just smiled. So I took off running,” Cariño said. The men had by then been let into the Honduran man’s yard across the street by his stepson, and Cariño started yelling at him not to let them in. The men claimed to be from Tucson Electric Power (TED) and told neighbors they were trying to provide the man with city services he’d asked for, Cariño said. “Don’t open the door, they don’t have a warrant!” she was heard yelling in video from the incident, obtained by KGUN 9. “They’re lying, they’re not in a uniform!” Immigration officials aren’t allowed to enter people’s homes without consent from an occupant if they don’t have a warrant — and Cariño claimed the individuals appeared to be faking their identity to trick their way into the man’s home. Speaking through the home’s door, the agents said the Honduran had missed immigration court dates, but he denied that and refused to come out. It remains unclear whether the men Cariño encountered were from ICE, but a spokesperson for the agency told the Arizona Daily Star “It’s an ongoing investigation” while declining to comment on the allegations of impersonation. Such tactics have allegedly been used by immigration officials across the country in the past, according to the outlet, and have previously been called unconstitutional in a 2020 American Civil Liberties Union complaint out of California. That case is still pending.

During a Friday afternoon press conference, during which the president signed a fresh round of executive orders relating to commercial nuclear energy, Trump issued a scathing attack on Harvard after a reporter asked about Homeland Security's move to ban the university from accepting international students, which prompted the lawsuit. "I do [think Harvard should accept the 'best and brightest'] but a lot of the people need remedial math," Trump told reporters Friday afternoon. "How can someone who can’t add get into Harvard, and then you see those same people picketing and screaming at the U.S. We don’t want troublemakers here." The ban comes amid the Trump administration's crackdown on international students protesting against the Gaza war. What could Trump be referring to? Harvard's Math Department launched a pilot introductory course to help improve student's foundation algebra skills, Harvard’s Director of Introductory Math Brendan A. Kelly told The Harvard Crimson, Harvard's student newspaper, in September 2024. He cited the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns for the recent learning gap and hoped the new course, which ran in tandem with two established math classes, would boost students' skills and confidence. “The last two years, we saw students who were in Math MA and faced a challenge that was unreasonable given the supports we had in the course," he told The Harvard Crimson. "So we wanted to think about, ‘How can we create a course that really helps students step up to their aspirations?’” “Students don’t have the skills that we had intended downstream in the curriculum, and so it creates different trajectories in students’ math abilities." Last month, the New York Post published a scathing op-ed criticizing the university for the move to offer lower-level math classes. The right-leaning outlet accused the esteemed Ivy League of offering "remedial" math courses, which it claims were necessitated by the tossing of standardized testing for college applications during the pandemic, "all in the name of equity." Trump's Oval Office ceremony comes after House Republicans narrowly passed, in a tight 215-2014 vote, a "one big, beautiful" spending package, which primarily seeks to extend Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Now, the bill has to fight a tough battle in the Senate. The bill makes an exception on its cuts to clean energy for nuclear programs, which was the focus of the press conference. Opposition party members in the Senate including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) railed against the bill, which he warned was a move on behalf of oligarchs to "wage a war on the working class." Wellman wrote: “[Secretary of Defense] Hegseth has invited what appears to be the entire Pentagon workforce to a Christian prayer & worship service in the official Pentagon auditorium during duty hours in violation of the First Amendment and military regulations” Wellman added: “An email went out at 9:00 AM today to a wide distribution that might be the entire Pentagon email list to attend a Christian service from the Office of the Secretary of Defense. This breaks the Establishment Clause and military regulations for prolestitizing [sic] in the government” The Establishment clause prohibits the government from “establishing” a religion to avoid “excessive entanglement between church and state” [NOTE: For a historical examination of the Establishment Clause, including its history in the Supreme Court and its effect on military regulations, see Liberty of Conscience: In Defense of America’s Tradition of Religious Equality by University of Chicago Law and Ethics Professor Martha Nussbaum] As Wellman writes on his Substack: “The leader of the entire United States military just sent out an invite to share his personal religion with all of his subordinates from an official government account, in a government building, attended by government employees on government time. Graham Allen, who reportedly manages the DoD’s social media, replied to Wellman’s post in a similar vein: “[Wellman] leaves out this prayer service was VOLUNTARY! Only a truly EVIL/DEMONIC individual would find issue with a VOLUNTARY prayer service at the Pentagon!!” Wellman responded to Allen’s post: “We were all taught has [sic] young officers that there are no ‘suggestions’ from Commanders. When a leader suggests or invites people to something its [sic] an implied task. To do so during duty hours in the military’s headquarters only makes it worse. I know the law. I did 22 years in the Army and graduated from West Point. I learned some stuff.” Wellman added of Hegseth: “As a former officer he should know better. There's a hidden provision in that big ugly bill that makes Trump king Robert Reich I’ve been following with a mixture of dismay and disgust Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill, soon to emerge from the House. I’ll report back to you on it. But I want to alert you to one detail inside it that’s especially alarming. With one stroke, it would allow Trump to crown himself king. As you know, Trump has been trying to neuter the courts by ignoring them. The Supreme Court has told Trump to “facilitate” the return of Abrego Garcia, a legal resident of the United States whom even the Trump regime admits was erroneously sent to a brutal prison in El Salvador. Trump has essentially thumbed his nose at the Court by doing nothing. Lower federal courts have told him to stop deporting migrants without giving them a chance to know the charges against them and have the charges and evidence reviewed by a neutral judge or magistrate (the minimum of due process). Again, nothing. Judge James Boasberg, Chief Judge of the federal district court for the District of Columbia, issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Trump regime from flying individuals to the prison in El Salvador without due process. Judge Boasberg has found that the Trump regime has willfully disregarded his order. What can the courts do in response to Trump’s open defiance of the judges and justices? The courts have one power to make their orders stick: holding federal officials in contempt and enforcing such contempt citations against them. Enforcing a contempt citation means fining or jailing the Trump lawyers who argue before them, and possibly invoking contempt all the way up the line to Trump. Boasberg said that if Trump’s legal team does not give the dozens of Venezuelan men sent to the Salvadorian prison a chance to legally challenge their removal, he’ll begin contempt proceedings against the administration. In a separate case, U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis has demanded that the Trump administration explain why it is not complying with the Supreme Court order to “facilitate” the release of Abrego Garcia. Xinis questions whether the administration intends to comply with the order at all, citing a statement from U.S. Department of Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem that Abrego Garcia "will never be allowed to return to the United States." According to Xinis, "That sounds to me like an admission. That's about as clear as it can get." So what’s next? Will the Supreme Court and lower courts hold the administration in contempt and enforce contempt citations? Not if the Big Ugly Bill is enacted with the following provision, now hidden in the bill: “No court of the United States may use appropriated funds to enforce a contempt citation for failure to comply with an injunction or temporary restraining order if no security was given when the injunction or order was issued….” Translated: No federal court may enforce a contempt citation. Obviously, courts need appropriated funds to do anything because Congress appropriates money to enable the courts to function. To require a security or bond to be given in civil proceedings seeking to stop alleged abuses by the federal government would effectively immunize such conduct from judicial review because those seeking such court orders generally don’t have the resources to post a bond. Hence, with a stroke, the provision removes the judiciary’s capacity to hold officials in contempt. As U.C. Berkeley School of Law Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law Erwin Chemerinsky notes, this provision would eliminate any restraint on Trump. ‘Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless and can be ignored. There is no way to understand this except as a way to keep the Trump administration from being restrained when it violates the Constitution or otherwise breaks the law… ‘This would be a stunning restriction on the power of the federal courts. The Supreme Court has long recognized that the contempt power is integral to the authority of the federal courts. Without the ability to enforce judicial orders, they are rendered mere advisory opinions which parties are free to disregard.” With this single provision, in other words, Trump will have crowned himself king. No congress and no court could stop him. Even if a future Congress were to try to stop him, it could not do so without the power of the courts to enforce their hearings, investigations, subpoenas, and laws. What can you do? It left the "practicalities of compliance" up to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's DHS & Pam Bondi's DOJ, but said the court expected the migrants to be treated "humanely" The decision comes as Trump's admin has claimed it can't bring back migrants-including the mistakenly deported Maryland dad Kilmar Abrego Garcia-being held in custody in El Salvador on behalf of DHS During a recent congressional hearing, Noem claimed she couldn't request a wellness check to make sure one of the migrants, a gay makeup artist and asylum seeker named Andry Romero-was still alive, because it was "not under her jurisdiction" On Monday, lawyers for the migrants who were deported to South Sudan alleged in an emergency motion that their clients-one from Vietnam & one from Myanmar, had been deported with less than 24 hours' notice despite the devastating armed conflict unfolding there Fighting broke out just over 2 years ago between the Sudanese army & the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, leaving more than 150,000 people dead & about 12 million displaced, the BBC reported in March Almost half of the country's population, or 24.6 million people, don't have enough food & about 637,000 people are facing outright famine, leading Oxfam officials to declare it the world's "largest humanitarian crisis" according to The Guardian One of the migrants deported to South Sudan was part of a group the Trump administration had tried to deport to Libya earlier this month, leading Murphy to instruct immigration officials not to deport the migrants to any country where they weren't citizens known as a "third country" without giving them a chance to challenge their removal. In their filing, lawyers for the migrants sent to South Sudan accused the administration of violating Murphy's previous order. The migrants had previously been issued orders of removal back to their home countries, not to a third country. The migrant from Myanmar, identified only as N.M., nevertheless received a deportation notice on Monday and had already been deported by Tuesday morning, according to a statement filed by N.M.'s lawyer. The spouse of T.P.P., the Vietnamese migrant, said in an email submitted to the court that T.P.P. was part of a group of 14 migrants whom ICE planned to send to either South Africa or Sudan "against their will." Other members of the group were originally from Laos, Thailand, Pakistan, Korea and Mexico. "The detention centers are overcrowded with inhumane conditions, and ICE is sending people anywhere they can to combat the overcrowding," the spouse alleged. "Please help! They cannot be allowed to do this." Murphy instructed the parties to appear in court on Wednesday for a previously scheduled hearing to discuss the "time and manner of notice" given to each migrant, along with any opportunities they were given to raise a "fear-based claim." Individuals facing removal to a country where they have a credible fear of persecution or torture have the right to seek asylum, according to DHS. In an emergency filing to the federal district court in Massachusetts, the attorneys said the reported deportation flight to South Sudan would directly violate an ruling issued by U.S. District Court Judge Brian Murphy that barred the Trump administration from deporting migrants to third countries without affording them certain due process rights. The lawyers said any migrant deported to South Sudan "faces a strong likelihood of irreparable harm," citing reports documenting widespread violence, human rights violations and conflict in the landlocked African country, the world's youngest nation. Soon after its independence in 2011, South Sudan endured a bloody civil war — and fears of a new conflict have recently surfaced. The U.S. State Department has a Level 4 travel advisory for South Sudan, warning Americans not to travel there due to "crime, kidnapping, and armed conflict." The emergency motion asked Murphy to prohibit deportations of third country deportees to South Sudan, and to order the return of those deported there, if the removals had already occurred. The U.S. government has not publicly confirmed an arrangement to deport migrants who are not from South Sudan to that country. Representatives for the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Trump administration has been mounting an aggressive diplomatic campaign to convince nations around the world to accept migrants who are not their own citizens, approaching far-flung nations like Libya and Rwanda to take in third country deportees. It has already deported African and Asian migrants to Costa Rica and Panama, and Venezuelan deportees to El Salvador. Earlier this month, CBS News and other outlets reported the administration had made plans to send migrants to Libya, but that flight never materialized once those reports surfaced. In April, Murphy, the federal judge in Massachusetts, barred the government from deporting migrants to third countries, unless it first provided them and their lawyers notice of the destination and a chance to contest their deportation. In their filing on Tuesday, the group of immigration lawyers said the government appeared to have violated that order in the case of two migrants from Myanmar and Vietnam. Emails submitted by the lawyers show that an attorney for the man from Myanmar was sent a notice on Monday indicating that his client had been told he would be deported to South Africa. The attorney was then sent another email, indicating that his client was actually facing deportation to South Sudan, the emails show. On Tuesday morning, another lawyer helping the man from Myanmar emailed the immigration detention center in Los Fresnos, Texas, where he was being held, asking about his whereabouts. She was told her client had been deported in the morning. When she asked where, she received an email saying, "South Sudan." The lawyers said they also received an email from a woman who said she believed her husband, a man from Vietnam, had been deported to South Sudan, alongside other migrant detainees held at the Los Fresnos detention facility.

The report, by the Tech Transparency Project, a nonprofit focused on accountability for large technology companies, said X had continued to take payments from accounts that appeared to be affiliated with Hezbollah leaders, Houthi officials, and militia leaders in Syria and Iraq. The subscriptions, which cost $8 a month, offer users a blue check mark — once limited to notable users like celebrities — and come with perks. Those include more prominent placement in X’s algorithm, the ability to edit posts and the option to share longer videos. After the Tech Transparency Project reported last year that X had granted paid blue check marks to 28 accounts belonging to entities subject to U.S. sanctions, the social media company stripped badges from some of the accounts and suspended others. But within a month, several of those accounts bought badges again — and have displayed them ever since. More than 200 accounts linked to terrorist groups and other sanctioned groups have bought blue check marks, according to the Tech Transparency Project. “They rely on the premium services for the amplification of long propaganda posts and extended videos,” said Katie Paul, the director of the organization. “They are not just subscribing for the blue check notoriety, they are subscribing for the premium services.” Mr. Musk, who has taken on a role in the Trump administration as a special adviser to the president, recently criticized the Treasury Department, claiming the agency did not have “basic controls” in place to track payments and prevent them from going to terrorist groups. During a February appearance with President Trump in the Oval Office, Mr. Musk said controls to prevent payments to terrorist groups and fraudsters were “in place at any company.” X and the Treasury Department did not respond to requests for comment. After Mr. Musk bought X in 2022, he made vast changes, including reinstating hundreds of banned accounts and laying off about 80 percent of the staff. He also got rid of the old verification system, which relied on employees to verify prominent users’ identities, and replaced it with a subscription. X’s policies forbid terrorist groups to buy blue check marks, and it is unclear how the organizations and people highlighted in the report skirted those rules to pay for their premium status. Because X no longer verifies the identities of users before granting check marks, it is also possible that some of the accounts discovered by the Tech Transparency Project belong to impersonators. Still, some of those accounts were labeled “ID verified,” which requires sharing a selfie and a form of identification. Subhi Tufayli, a founder of Hezbollah who was the group’s first secretary general, appears to have an “ID verified” account with more than 40,700 followers. Mr. Tufayli has been on the Treasury Department’s sanctions list since 1995. The account, which was verified in October 2023, frequently shares 30-minute videos of his sermon. In the months that followed, at least five senior Houthi officials appeared to pay for blue check marks on X, the latest Tech Transparency Project report found. The accounts have more than 820,000 followers. Some of the flagged accounts used X to raise funds, either by using X’s tipping and subscription features to solicit payments or by directing users to send money to a cryptocurrency wallet. “There is clear evidence of these groups profiting and fund-raising through X,” Ms. Paul said. “They are sanctioned for a reason, and the fact that somebody who has such influence and power in the federal government is at the same time profiting from these designated terrorist groups and individuals is extremely concerning.”

Recently, he posted a plan to get back at the Supreme Court justices for not ruling in line with MAGA. "The Supreme Court still has an illegal injunction on the President of the United States, preventing him from commanding military operations to expel these foreign terrorists," Davis wrote. "The President should house these terrorists near the Chevy Chase Country Club, with daytime release." Chevy Chase Club is "an elite country club that counts Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. among its members," the Washington Post reports. Trump "re-Truthed" that remark on Saturday. This led former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau to say, "The President re-posts a suggestion from an adviser that he release 'terrorists' near the homes of Supreme Court justices who’ve merely ruled that the government can’t send people to a foreign gulag without due process."
