I see your point however I do still believe the dependency limit is discriminatory and will impact differnetially. An overall alteration to level and costs is one thing but I feel the dependencies, be it used elsewhere or not, is not sensible or fair

I am not sure, however would that change the opinion? The effect is the same of driving away talent, whether other places have the same policy or not, the focus is always what is best for Briton and in this case this isn't the best and should be kept in mind

I say again, that point is not the discussion of the original article and post about it, nor is it the point of any of my comments. That is another part of the discussion. A valid one, sure, but not the point here. This is about the detrimental effects it is having on that two-way traffic as balance

We have unis among the best due to the presence of international specialists. The part of the article this post is about is about academia, senior level positions and retaining that level of excellence we have. This is not the part of the conversation you want to have about the entry levels

Those job are not the ones in discussion, it's the post-grad jobs that are problematic. It is roughly a net-zero, however if we stop attracting those highly skilled post-docs and loosing competitivity it will become a net loss, the UK will be a less attractive option even to Brits

These international specialists are who train the next generation of local specialists. By restricting their access to working here, we are restricting our own success both now and in the future. The UK will, as Carolina says, become less competitive and drive locals and investment away
