PP’s win is not inevitable.

Let’s go Battle River - Crowfoot, support a 5th gen service member, retired after 22 years in the Canadian Army.

Bonnie Critchley actually lives and works in the riding and she’ll represent you, not a big party machine that thinks nothing of circumventing your will.

May Day: born from the blood & hope of workers fighting for the 8-hour work day in 1886. It’s about justice, equity, & democracy from the ground up.

This year, it lands just after a major political shift. Let's all push Carney & the Liberals to meet this moment & deliver what they promised.

Story time 🧵

Reminder: Trump is the most visible figurehead of a much larger project that began, arguably, with Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign. Before Goldwater, conservatism was marginalized and seen as reactionary and fringe. It was incoherent and unorganized as a movement.

Here’s a great example of normalization. “You know who” isn’t just trying to “stir things up back in D.C.”

It’s literally not safe for any one to cross the US border.

You need to stop denying reality. You must confront it and stop him. Cutsie ads aren’t the solution.

Wrong.

All of us are at some point. Admitting you got it wrong may cause discomfort but it's not usually a big deal if you confront it, learn more, make amends if necessary, & change course.

Certitude leads to intolerance leads to violence. That's the kind of wrong we all want to avoid.

You know you’re in a cult when you actually believe you should listen to someone - support them even - when their actions are actively and purposefully hurting people.

It’s not just okay to withdraw your support, it’s actually necessary.

Why would we give this up? Rhetorical question - we never will.

Note: The only quibble I have with this image is re: minimum wage. In Canada it’s $17.30 CAD but provinces set their own, ranging from $15 to $17.40 CAD. In the USA it’s $7.25 USD, but many states have higher minimum wages.

Social media has a hell of a lot to answer for.

(Yes, I am aware of the irony of posting this on social media)

The only reasonable response to a bully is to keep punching.

A pause won’t cut it. Negotiations won’t cut it.

Drop all tariffs and back off.

That’s it.

As for partisan politics - that’s a fight for another day.

Anyone else notice the stellar sales on offer across social today?

Our corporate friends aren’t dumb. Don’t fall for their cunning.

These are heavy, serious times.
No question.

Equally true - my 80 pound lab/shepherd cross will not abide a puddle. The snow is melting here and she will dance around a puddle like Ginger Rogers just to keep from getting her toes wet.

What I’m saying is, silly and wonderful contrasts abound.

I suppose a majority of Americans chose this but the rest of the world didn’t.

We now have to come up with a plan to deal with this new and powerful enemy for when the next pandemic inevitably strikes.

Amazing to think this was just a couple of weeks ago.

Friends help friends, they don’t extort them. Not for any reason.

A day late but God Jul to anyone reading this. The new year will likely be difficult for many of us but always remember, if we stick together, we will persevere.

Just discovered Homicide: Life on the Street is finally streaming in Canada (Crave).

The first episode, at 31-years-old, still feels fresh (maybe a little too “hand-held.”).

It’s immediately obvious that this show is the parent of so much “golden age” TV that followed.

Showed the 14-year-old Dead Poets Society this weekend. She found it slow (of course) but was quite affected by it.

I was reminded that greats like Weir used to move the camera to convey meaning. And they rarely used extreme close ups. That way secondary action could be included in the frame.

I love music. It’s as necessary to my well-being as sunlight or caffeine.

I listen to instrumental music all day (lyrics interfere with my work).

Trentemøller’s cinematic electronic music is my favourite find in a long while.

What are you enjoying?

A beautiful, affecting story. You could read it in one sitting but I suggest slowing down and really absorbing Keegan’s prose.

Look forward to the movie adaptation with the great Cillian Murphy.

Today, it’s all about appreciating Ennio Morricone’s iconic score for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).

Specifically, the blazing horn part Michele Lacerenza played on “El Trio - Il Triello.” So good.
