Musk's wealth is directly correlated to the share price of $TSLA, which is literally just what investors are willing to pay for part of the company. Are you upset about EV tax incentives, which are available to all EV manufacturers?

What are you talking about? Tesla sells cars to people who want to buy them. SpaceX sells launch services at a fraction of the cost of anyone else, saving the USG an estimated $10-50B.

But it seems clear that they are not unprofitable because of their executive pay. CEO is getting less than $1MM in cash, rest is stock/options. Likely they have several times the number of employees they need. All of that “product iteration” mentioned above burns a lot of “productive” human capital.

Agreed that all of their new products have been bad, and generally a bust, with the early exception of “subreddits”. The horrible redesign (I’ll bet they get rid of old.reddit.com), like you mentioned, the NFT nonsense (although at the time, I’m sure those projects made sense to some mid-level PM).

The first one almost looks like it could be a genAI Sam Allan, but they did him dirty and stole his chin! Worse than an AVP persona.

What are these pictures? It’s not Sam Altman.

Reddit’s success was basically being at the right place at tie right time, to be the main benefactor of the Dog diaspora. There didn’t seem to be a clear successor this time with Reddit’s downfall/pivot to video/consumer content. Lemmy, maybe, but I think it didn’t quite seize the moment.

Plus, getting a ~$20B payment for basically no work is pretty much impossible to beat. Hard to imagine that an Apple branded search engine could drive anywhere near that kind of revenue, and would of course incur billions in investment—for less revenue.

What is Bing, that would have any value? The brand, especially in 2018, is certainly low value, so Apple would have to rename the product. Idk how good the underlying technology is, but it didn’t seem to ever be good enough to convince any meaningful amount of users to switch to it.
