For those who don't have long memories, there was once a company called Steorn that claimed it had created a free energy device from magnets. It got around €23M over 10 yrs without once showing the device working. The liquidation ended in May 24, with €344K owed to creditors and only €80K in assets.
Sean McCarthy, CEO of an Irish company called Steorn kneels behind a framework of metal which holds a device which he claimed created free energy. He has an incredibly smug look on his face and the device looks like it's been made out of toilet paper rolls sprayed silver. Today's techbro guy is called Sam Altman and his gizmo is called Helion Energy and it's just about as useful as the device in the picture.
