The Slate truck looks neat, and reminds me of the last time a Detroit automaker tried to build an ultra-low cost vehicle: the 1997 Chrysler CCV. Color-molded composite body panels were its main calling card, and Chrysler worked on that idea for years before setting it aside.

It's a mix of things, including arcane EPA rules about GVWR, flat load floors and other stuff that I have forgotten. Here's everything EPA currently classifies as a wagon, which is a real hodgepodge:

Saturn Sky Red Line. Fun, low to no unobtainum, fuel costs within reason, still worth something three years later. Just have to stay away from car washes and heavy downpours.
