Birmingham council electric refuse lorry. Built in 1938 was in service until 1972 - these vehicles batteries were recharged with electricity generated from steam produced by burning the refuse they collected

Enjoyed a talk on #Birmingham pioneer, Dame Hilda Lloyd, by Prof Jonathan Reinarz @reinarz.bsky.social at The Exchange, UoB. She established obstetrical ‘Flying Squads’ in the city and in a small exhibition in the rear foyer you can see one of the flying squad cases on display plus a short film.
