The 50th uptick makes sense. As a Michigander I don't notice any difference. Heck, as a teen (30 years ago) I ran into Superior in November with a bunch of buddies with this event on our minds.

I thought Schumer was incompetent way back when I was a Republican and remain of that opinion as a Democrat.

And they're doing it while per capita electrical consumption is solidly increasing. 👍

... how to do "off grid" solar if you want to learn more. And "off grid" just means you don't feed back to the grid. You can still consume from it with these setups. You don't need any permits from the utility company if you're not feeding the grid though.

In some areas (Utah, most of the EU) you can do 'balcony solar' where you just jack some panels into an AC outlet (properly) and it backfeeds your house and the grid. It's like running a space heater in reverse powerwise. Might be an option in a condo.

I've actually downloaded some light curve data and done the work to spot a planet where there was an obvious one. Wild that something we legit didn't know about when I graduated high school is now just so common a kid could find it in the data we have.

I'm intrigued by those but at this point batteries are ready. Even at consumer pricing going solar+battery for a home actually makes economic sense. At grid scale it's even cheaper. I priced out taking my home "off grid" and the largest expense was the mounts to put the solar panels in.

As a non-astronomer but data nerd that chart is giving me 18 emotions, none good, and 16 of them don't have names.

Yup! That one was on my mind as I wrote that. Super cool.
You might having this one in your back pocket too. It's the reason I mention forcing AC units on. UofM did a study and showed it's a good way to balance the grid out.

Home AC units can balance the electrical grid without impacting comfort
A real-world frequency regulation experiment demonstrates that managing AC units can help actively balance electricity supply and demand.

I'm correct. Chuck Schumer isn't currently senate majority leader and won't be senate majority leader tomorrow.
Good chance he'll remain senate minority leader for a bit though. Shorter the better.

Back in the 80's to consume 1MW it would have taken 7 Cray 1's. Seven.
Today you can run that compute power off some AA batteries hooked to a Raspberry Pi.

... but ringing the doorbell and standing at the stoop doesn't clear that hurdle at all. If the prosecutor doesn't bring charges they suck at their job and should be voted out.
Texas actually does this right. If you kill somebody a grand jury decides, not the prosecutor, if you go to trial.

'Castle Doctrine' itself isn't bad. It requires a reasonable fear of death, great bodily injury, or sexual assault that basically all lethal force does. It just clears the burden a bit, in that if somebody is trying to break into your home with force, you darned well should be afraid of those 3....
