I am a cultural anthropologist, educator, academic, actor, and seeker of knowledge.
Independent time away from adults are crucial for a child’s development; however, increased urbanization and distrust in strangers hinders this. But, online video games, a space where children can problem solve and form communities, can be a way to fill that void.

My class had the opportunity to speak with the Frederick chapter of the Convenant for Unitarian Universalist Pagans. Our lovely panelists spoke with students concerning Paganism within the Unitarian Church and training the Pagan imagination.

I have always thought of @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com work as anthropological through a fantastical and creative vessel. Volume three of “The Sandman” proves that without a doubt.

It displays celestial beings and concepts not separate from human creation, while still holding space the opposite. Both are interlocked with one another, defining and influencing the other in an endless dance.

The concept that regret is not about the mistakes we make, but the vast amount of possibilities we could have chosen is a beautiful shift.

This is a wonderfully hilarious, gorey Lovecraftian film. The trailer leads the audience to believe one thing occurs, when in fact, it is much darker. The social commentary and symbolism is placed perfectly alongside humorous jokes that will make you laugh out loud.

This past week, my Paganism class had the honor to hear from Sabina Magliocco, Ph.D. Dr. Magliocco spoke with students concerning new religious movements, expressing Pagan identities, and how the community has changed since the publication of their ethnography.

With the completion of “The Sandman” show, I thought it was high time I read the original work. I was completely blown away; I could not tear my eyes away from the pages. This truly is something special; I cannot wait to begin volume two.

When you are gaming and one of the characters states: “Imagine a discipline where researchers devote their time to studying the customs and beliefs of people”
I see you Greedfall; thank you for the anthropological representation.

As someone who researches and works with Heathen communities, this is by far the most comprehensive account of the American Heathen identity and practice I have read to date.

With summer upon us, that means that research and writing is underway. These are the recent articles that I have worked my way through; I would highly recommend them to any who are interested in Neo-Pagan space and religious identity, religious geography.

After a long school year, I cannot think of a better way to spend my first day off than on set of a new film project! I cannot reveal anymore information than that at the moment, but this one will be amazing. So, keep your eyes out for future content.

That concludes another intriguing semester at University of Mary Washington! I had the pleasure to create a new course that taught me about fostering critical thinking for cultural artifacts we interact with everyday: films.

My colleagues and I at University of Mary Washington had the wonderful opportunity to treat our graduating anthropology seniors to a proper send off. I am wishing nothing but the best for this year’s anthropology graduates. You all will go on to make fabulous achievements.

It is officially on the books for the Fall semester! I will be creating and instructing a course on Paganism from an anthropological perspective. This includes, as the title suggests, exploring the various spiritualities under the umbrella of “Pagan” from antiquity to modernity.

I have started my summer research a bit early this year. I will begin by reading Dr. Jennifer Snook’s ethnography concerning American Heathenism, communal solidarity, and Heathenism’s connection to political change.

The current way in which the executive branch operates did not get here over night. Like most things, it is the product of a long historical line. It is imperative that we follow and examine that line to fully understand how we got here.
