Couple things:

1. There’s a slew of ordinances totaling almost $500k for new police cruisers and equipment, and
2. A resolution and ordinance related to potential (likely) sewer bonds totaling up to $80,000,000!

Biggest thing on the agenda is the expected approval of $6 million in bonds for continued sewer and water projects.

Speaking of “Christmas,” my Christmas cactus has been blooming for two months straight now! Probably due to its position near a window (cold) and low light levels in winter. I’m not complaining! The only downside is constantly cleaning up dead buds.

Disgraced entrepreneur Jeffrey Morris was sentenced to five years in federal prison in Sept. Morris and his company, Roxby Development, defrauded investors by making “materially false and fraudulent pretenses and promises.” Morris also failed to pay taxes and his employees.

On Nov. 6, the council adopted a panhandling ban in all but name. The ordinance, effective on Jan. 1, 2025, bans the exchange of items between motorists and vehicles. The police announced in Dec. that they would enforce the ban on every city street beginning in the new year.

City officials moved homeless citizens to a camp under the US-250 overpass. By April, that camp was dismantled and moved to an area far from service providers. In Nov., the city moved the camp for a fourth time to an area with alleged rat infestations due city waste collection.

In January, Wheeling began enforcing its ban on urban camping. A Jan. 18 demolition of an East Wheeling camp displaced a dozen individuals and saw many of their belongings destroyed. By March, the city spent an average of $5,500.
