I think MOBAs and to an extent hero shooters are at the height of the "breadth over depth" problem.
They present a huge knowledge requirement for even beginner play, but once that is met, the actual abilities, items, and even core mechanics like movement involve so little mastery.

There's more skill expression in terms of movement and aim tracking in AFPS, and the high TTK ensures you're actually interacting with the opponent
