Cognitive Dissonance is the mental discomfort felt when our beliefs or actions conflict with each other. In communication, it creates discomfort that can lead to persuasion. It also affects social collaboration, as we react differently to various social cues, sometimes making it harder to interact.

In today's class we have investigated whataboutism, a current that tries to justify morally deplorable acts by pointing out the negative things that others have done. This movement can join the egoccentric bias, where a politician justifies all his mistakes from a completely biased point of view.

Today working on the list of cognitive biases and how they are used in communication #framingtheory

cognitive bias is a systematic pattern of deviation from rational judgment. It’s your brain’s shortcut—but sometimes it leads to errors in thinking, perception, memory, and behavior. These biases influence how we process information and make decisions—often without even realizing it. #CognitiveBias

#framingtheory
Framing theory explains how media shapes how we see the world. By highlighting certain angles, words, or visuals, media can influence how audiences interpret events, people, or issues. It's not just what is reported—but how it's framed—that affects perception.

Who sets the agenda for the media?
- Compelling news events —- they appear in the news because they're an important event. Big events (BBK Live)
- Media “gatekeepers” (media editors, lobbies, advertisers, journalists, media owners, media format, government...)

In our experiment we proved that if we are consuming mass media our perception of reality is conditioned by the selection, omission and framing of stories they want us to know about

SOS Agenda Setting experiment!

Walter Lippman was a an american journalist who argued that the public doesn't see the world directly but instead responds to the "pictures in their heads" created by the media.
