Don't take promises for granted. Be careful, be aware, and if you can - partner with artists to build your projects so that you're not left worrying which load-bearing licenses of yours are made of iron, and which are made of paper. 7/7

Creative projects involve a lot of assets, and it's very common for some of them to be sourced from royalty free libraries. It's really enticing to leave things up to another company, and to trust in their promises. 5/

I myself have had incidents where background music for which I'd purchased a royalty free license caused videos to receive copyright claims against them years later - all because the music had changed hands to some other party that thought it could make a quick buck. 4/

I just watched a video from @handmadealphas.bsky.social about how customers of one such service, Creative Fabrica, got sued for using assets from that service that included commercial licensing. 3/

A lot of those services allow third parties to sell through them, which immediately makes the situation dicey. After all, if the service doesn't own the license they're passing onto you, how can they confirm that each and every third party seller does? 2/

We also made a new Unsolicited Advice comic (although much rougher than it usually is) addressing the core purpose of the challenge, as something to help students develop the discipline to tackle any seemingly overwhelming task by breaking it down into smaller steps.
