even keep you on your toes with the strategy, like maybe there's a "spider's nest" area, so you think "oh! I'll equip the guy with arachnophobia" but he actually gets so scared by spiders that he'll actually run away (temporarily leave your party) if you force him to fight a spider

have one guy who's not really scared by anything, but he does fear death, or losing his friends, so his fear gauge only raises when him or his friends get low on health

I actually think there's a lot of depth you could get into with the fear mechanic, like have each character have their own phobias that raise their specific fear gauge faster

I suppose there should be a slight more trade-off to the fear mechanic, like if you accumulate *too* much fear, it could make the characters irrational, and do things like maybe accidentally attack other party members

I'm also thinking that equipping equipment better than what you're currently wearing will reduce fear on a percentage based on how much the other stats are raised

so you get sort of a trade off, since equipping better weapons and armor will make your base attack and defense stronger, but at the cost of how much fear you accumulate, as the better equipment makes you more confident
