In the last half decade, our writers have shared stories about surviving extreme heat, navigating broken health care, and being shut out of elections. One of our most read pieces of 2025 is about how kittens softened an entire yard.

"Emotional-load-bearing" is such a good term for it. I have also found myself crying over things that others would see as silly but really these little comforts are sometimes doing a lot of work!

I hope an equal comfort comes your way soon. 💛

I am by no means an artist, but I host these classes because I want to bring the joy of crafting to my patrons. I’ve gotten really good feedback on how much they enjoy it too!

Besides decorating our library for different times of the year, I also try to host a monthly crafting class. Past ones include making your own bookmark, painting like famous artists, and printmaking!

Thanks! I can’t take credit for the Venus flytrap idea, but it was really fun to do!

Right? I have no idea who originally came up with this idea because Pinterest is terrible at giving credit, but I really enjoyed this craft!

I was told that being able to decorate for the holidays to this extent is very rare in prison libraries. More than one patron said that little things like this help bring a sense of normalcy to their lives and help them enjoy this time of year more. 📚📜

Literally just had that moment with my boss this morning. She saw the concern on my face and quickly followed up with "It's nothing bad!" 😅

Yes!! I am honestly surprised the "compliance rate" for using them is so low because using it every night has been life changing for me.

I get that the initial period of getting used to it is pretty uncomfortable, though, and of course there is upkeep with cleaning / replacing parts.
