Canadian here. I grew up saying it as though it rhymes with “devious”. But as I grew older and realized that wasn’t the way it was supposed to be pronounced, I started sometimes saying it “correctly”.

My pet peeve: the phrase “how come”. Just say “why”. But I probably say it without realizing it.

I’m not sure what your budget is but if $10-$12 per dinner is at all reasonable, you could try a company like Blue Apron that would deliver ready-made meals to just warm up. Often even just the trial periods for these kinds of services have good discounts too.
