There will always be "best" or "high use" cards in a format. But you can't know that's a problem until PEN hits and decks that actively don't work get the remainder of their cards and start actually impacting the format LSS has planned around.

But the point was the pre-PEN launch gives them data, which it doesn't. If you preemptively ban cards because of a future set's contents, you can't know what is or is not a problem based off matches that happen prior to the PEN launch.

Any game you see people play now by necessity can't give you useful information because the "real" environment is the PEN environment. Decks that are there to curb the oppression of other decks just don't have all the tools yet and skews results.

Except PEN isn't an expansion if the existing banlist "won't make sense in some places until after PEN", it's the actual starting point. Data collected now doesn't *mean* anything when you're talking about problem cards because the PEN environment changes so much that it affected bans preemptively.

Except you can't know there's a problem until your full design suite is in place. Again, they were pretty explicit about how Sage's banned list was planned with PEN in mind. If they were actually looking to get data, they'd have a looser ban list so they had a solid baseline for comparison.

I feel like with Oldhim being a man, if he were trans it would be 'Rated T for Testosterone'

But the data won't be any good if they implemented the ban list based on what was coming in PEN, which they told us they did. What they'll have data on is something that they themselves said is incomplete.

My biggest problem is they shouldn't be premiering a half-baked format. If Compendium is where they *actually* want Silver Age to be and that is the point where the ban list makes sense, then hold the launch events until Compendium.

He's missing too many tools to be oppressive enough to get voted out immediately.

As someone who both needs a job and has a disability, it is a nightmare trying to navigate this job market. AI applications and fake job postings makes it nearly impossible, despite 25 years of experience and a degree in my field.

...to make the elimination bracket. This would create a more diverse metagame and allow heroes that aren't at the top, but could be disruptive, a chance to make the cut.
November 17, 2025 at 9:24 PM
People would flip out, but the Raw Deal card game used to have a rule that no wrestler could be repeated in a top X cut unless you didn't have enough unique wrestlers to form a top X cut. I would kill for LSS to do the same thing. If you want to play Cindra, you have to be the *best* Cindra...

You're absolutely spot on about the game needing active hands on balancing. I think balance gets less attention than it should. That is the foundation of everything else working correctly. Everything else that I think should happen has an underpinning of balance being correctly managed.

Maybe not Starvo, since regular Bravo already exists, but I do kind of feel bad for people who love a character and are just kind of wandering the wilderness. I think the LL system is important, but would having a blank Azalea have really been a problem?
November 17, 2025 at 5:01 PM
I don't think they should have ever done a point multiplier. If a hero goes as fast as Aurora, so be it. I'd like every hero to have what amounts to a bad evergreen version just so no one has to lose the only hero they actually like. That would eliminate the 7 month LL feelsbad.
November 17, 2025 at 4:56 PM
I think at this point you let Verdance LL. She's in the time window where LSS is fine with a powerful hero LLing. You could maybe ban Waning Moon to hurt the off-turn Striders potential, but basically anything else would cripple her rather than bring her into a good place.
November 17, 2025 at 10:57 AM
It's bad. 40 to 0 in one turn shouldn't happen. Same with Starvo.

I think Sanders was done at least a little dirty by his receiving corps (or maybe it should be corpse.)

We keep our tree up all year, but we have almost nothing on it that would indicate that it's specifically a Christmas tree.

Favorable is not the same as "Ok guys, the Chiefs need a fucking win right here, right now, so that we can make sure they're on the road to the playoffs, capiche?" That second thing is what I expect against the Colts.
November 17, 2025 at 5:12 AM
Yeah, that's why I said the NFL will have them in line.

The NFL will have the refs in line for the Chiefs for next week's game
November 17, 2025 at 12:46 AM
That sounds awful.

...rules, there was a group of crusty old bastards waiting to gatekeep you if you didn't engage with the hobby in the exact right way. If there is a fun and welcoming community, people will forgive expensive and/or bad game systems.
November 16, 2025 at 3:36 AM
The biggest failure of WHFB was the community. They would never own up to it because they would have to admit to killing what they profess to love, but it is absolutely the truth of it. The WHFB community was exclusionary and toxic. So if you were even able to get past the high cost and arcane...
