Suburban stadiums almost universally suck. One of the clearest examples is how lackluster the environment and crowd is for the 49ers since they moved from Candlestick to Santa Clara.

as for the upshot of the decision, the republican court has put the citizen children of non-citizens in a position similar to that of free blacks during the antebellum period. their right to enjoy the privileges and immunities of american citizenship will vary according to state borders

I've never understood the "but they'll just pack it back!" argument. It's an argument for doing nothing, and can apply to passing *any* legislation -- "we can't pass this good law, because the GOP will just repeal it in a few years" is surrendering in advance, and discounts domestic pressure.

Dorksburg is really lovely this time of year though.

And that 1.5% was only 1.5% because *their voters* were the ones who decided to sit on the sidelines in greater numbers. How do they think that more of this feckless bullshit will persuade those voters to come back?

Look if she was all about accountability, empathy, and self-reflection she wouldn’t be a Republican.

I left it years ago now but it was a “gateway drug” of sorts to a better political philosophy. It’s hard to break through the conservative bubble that many are born into and it at least used to infiltrate those ideas into the broader conservative space.

I’ll always give the old school principled libertarians a bit of a credit. I was raised conservative and went through a libertarian phase where it was the first time I was exposed to things like ending the drug war, legalizing sex work, not going to war in Iraq, and being pro-immigration.

The weird thing is that many GOP voters approve of a strong safety net, they just want it for themselves or think there’s some “welfare gold plan” that is lavish and only accessible to immigrants (especially the undocumented), “lazy minorities,” and single women who “can’t keep their legs closed”

It’s a very human response to trauma to forget (or rather, bury) things. Most people are familiar with the phenomenon with someone they know or even themselves.

But it’s still wild to see that effect expressed collectively among millions.

I have noticed that a lot of the right has constructed a tautology where if there’s violence = “the left.” They’ve placed all violence on the left side of the political spectrum

So in their minds if violence occurs it is *inherently* left wing, because the right cannot be violent and still be right

Until current party leadership is cleared out root and stem, I almost don't WANT them to do anything. Because it will inevitably be them saying the weakest shit imaginable like "don't get distracted let's talk about kitchen table issues" or "we wish we had a strong GOP for bipartisan legislation"

He does, and sadly this is also the often unspoken (but not always!) reason millions voted for him. They saw him as the guy that would finally dispense with the facade and just start killing all those liberals already. “Liberals” being a very broad and loosely defined concept for them.

Republicans have been openly advocating for treating blue states like conquered territory and yet the mainline Democratic Party and the ostensibly “neutral” media will not acknowledge it.

I remember it vividly. It was June 2020 and President Biden with his vice president Hillary Clinton personally went into every city and made them defund the police. Then they told everyone that white people are evil and made us all use pronouns. Then they released Covid. Like it was yesterday.

It will collapse. It’s when not if. The only question is will it be sooner rather than later, and how dire will the cost be. Because it can still cause catastrophic damage.
June 9, 2025 at 5:39 PM
It will collapse regardless. Ironically what we are experiencing is not dissimilar to the last decade or two of the USSR. An ossified gerontocracy that requires more and more bullshit to sustain its authority. Each heaping of shit produces more cracks in the foundation, more maintenance needed.

They *want* to believe it.

If it were true, it would justify (in their minds) the slaughter they want to see carried out against their fellow Americans.
June 9, 2025 at 5:25 PM
“This bad thing happened to me and I turned out fine!” is just code for “I am holding on to trauma but if I ignore it it will go away.”

It *always* manifests at some point, often in ways people don’t expect.

The good news is that means their entire project will inevitably collapse. Bullshit requires constant energy and participation, the truth does not. It will all fall eventually.

The bad news is they could still take a lot of us with them while it all crumbles.
