Again, I am not a master gardener by any means. I just fucked up a lot over the years and this year I've put a LOT of effort and research into how to finally grow my own food. Just keep trying!

Just remember to help your community to if needed :)

If you're not familiar with ISBN numbers all you have to do to find the book is put that number into google or your preferred search. Should pop right up.

If you don't want to go to a library, there's also the internet. But hey, old school books can't be tracked lol so here's what I'm using:

The Old Farmer's Almanac Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook (ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1571988454)

Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener's Handbook (ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1603426947)

Libraries are a great place for resources. Some libraries even have seeds you can grow (yes they're free.) and have a master gardener there to help you with questions.

Know your first and last frost/freeze dates. Gardening revolves around the weather and those dates dictate when you need to start and sow seeds both indoors and outdoors. If you're dealing with already grown baby plants, then you still need to pay attention to the weather.

One bonus point on the moles/voles is you can coral them in a specific direction if needed (like towards certain neighbors 😜

Watch out for critters! Either fence in your garden, have it in a safe spot on a balcony, get a scarecrow, deer scare, anything to keep critters from enjoying everything before you can! If you have moles, spray castor oil on the ground to drive them away (it's non-lethal and safe for plants).

TEST YOUR SOIL! small food yields can be caused by not enough or too much of certain nutrients in the ground. Testing kits are at the stores and will walk you through the testing part. Be sure to look up what your plants need too!

Water plants closer to the ground. Skipping merrily through the garden romantically watering from a garden can is a great way for bacteria from the ground to get onto leaves and ruin a good plant from disease (major side eye to the septoria fungi).

Here's what I've learned:
Don't forget to water! If you're forgetful like me, set up a drip system on a timer. If that's too expensive, set reminders on your phone. Plants also prefer water earlier in the day.

FYI...I'm great at failing at gardening due to getting distracted and a bunch of other stupid errors. BUT I'm learning at the same time and making note of what I did wrong so I can do better every year.
