I'm watching my 63 year old uncle go through it and it's horrible

Brave of them to stand out in the open like that. They keep this up and someone is going to shoot back.

Ezra asks good questions but he's quick to follow the winds and say what is politically safe rather than morally needed.

God help us when AI starts to be all content, directed by AI agents to sway arguments and push narratives. We are so, utterly, fucked.
September 12, 2025 at 4:17 PM
I agree with you on this. We live in an algorithmically fueled anger machine based on profit. What did we expect?

Even on younger platforms, the rate of misinfo spreads at near the same rate. So it's not really a question of young v old, on who can spot misinfo.

It's more correlated to how aggressive the algos push said info on a group, and the rate of adoption of that info, which is ubiquitous across ages
September 12, 2025 at 3:42 PM
Bc their reco engine is far more aggressive than most others in terms of serving up repeat/similar content. You engage with one bad thing and then are flooded with it. Again this isn't Facebook specific, you just have older ppl on Facebook who may be less able to spot it.

But..
September 12, 2025 at 3:41 PM
It's true fb does this. As does every platform that uses an algorithm that prioritizes engagement over truth. Fact is things that get you upset, angry, sad, etc. drive engagement which drive the reco engines. This is agnostic to all platforms. If anything, TikTok is the worst offender..
September 12, 2025 at 3:40 PM
But to argue that Facebook is the only platform that deals in misinfo on a large scale is an elementary understanding of online anthropology and social media / news cycles in general.

Anecdotally, you are more likely to say *your* platform of choice is more "truthful" than another. It's not.
September 12, 2025 at 3:38 PM
If you want to get technical, misinfo tends to spread from sub-culture platforms first, making their way to ALL platforms via various influencers to normalize those views. Then they take off, at a rate of 6-7x faster than what most ppl would consider the truth, or a near version of it.
September 12, 2025 at 3:37 PM
No, it really is. I study misinformation as part of my job for a living. While FB trends older, there is just as much misinfo on reddit, snap, TikTok, etc. at diff age groups and demographics. The rate of spread of misinfo isn't much diff on each platform, it just targets different demos on each

Being untethered from reality is platform agnostic
