Plainly, this makes it impossible to meaningfully conserve any endangered species. In the next decade we will see even higher rates of wildlife populations dying in the U.S., and we are already in a DIRE state with 60% reductions since 1970.

Habitat destruction is the number one cause of extinction, globally and in the U.S.. No other cause even comes close. Under the new Endangered Species Act rules, the ESA now can no longer protect habitat, as the definition of “harm” has been changed to exclude damage to ecosystems or habitat
