Exactly, which is why I’m confused by your stance, if you want a game that touches on those themes then just write it yourself.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge someone else’s take on it when they’re being very clear what they’re inspired by.

I don’t see any problem with that tbh, I’d rather play a light hearted title that has those themes vs some grim take.

I didn’t play Dragon Quest because of its themes, I played it because the cover art was super cool.

I can agree, I think there can be some steps in that direction but at the end of the day these games have to sell to an audience.

It’s clear that LoA has taken inspiration from the lighter side of these games which is fine because they do exist

I mean, JRPGs were absolutely dark but nothing wrong with cherry picking the preferred stuff from those genres.

I do agree that some of those games were different in tone but nothing says you can’t make it dark at your table.

I’d rather a game that focuses on a theme vs tries to be everything 🤷‍♂️

My own experience aside, I think recognising you come in hot is enough! It’s a lot of fun, I got the chance to play the full rulebook and it’s definitely worth the time investment!

Your confidence is understandable and entirely fair but from my experience he’s been very open and honest with where his inspiration comes from. I personally believe the respect is there :)

It deffo shares some dna with fabula, i mean pixel art and the JRPG style of design but it doesn’t play anything like it. He uses his own system as the main inspiration and builds further onto it.

But tbf to any title that shares ideas, I don’t blame them. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel!

I’m one of the playtesters and the dev brought this up, literally it was missed as a typo, there’s some other titles he’s mentioned that haven’t been typed into the touchstones :)

He has done so much research into the genre. It was fun watching first hand how his design comes together.
