We are looking to appoint a Rowing Coach & Assistant Equipment Manager to join our existing team from February 2025. You will coach students from our senior girls’ and boys’ and the Sixth Form. This is a full-time post working 35 hours per week all year round. Rowing sessions will primarily be in the afternoon. You will also be responsible for the preparation, care and maintenance of our boat club equipment with the support of the equipment manager.

Whilst this can be true in NSW, in the U21 category, the Small Boats Regatta is a make-or-break event. Storming into the new year, Quintin Head is one of the largest tideway heads. This weekend, we will see 300 eights, ranging in age and experience, flock to the Thames to race both the clock and their rivals to that precious first place position. It seems there should be a thrilling display of junior talents with 14 crews in the Junior 16 Women's category.

Kicking off the 2025 calendar year, Quintin Head is always a fan favourite for its Tideway setting, but at a shorter length of just 4.6km, compared to the coveted Head of The River’s 6.8km. With some mighty competition boarding the boats on the 25th January, Saturday’s racing will see matchups between St Paul’s, King’s College School, Abingdon, Dulwich College, Shiplake College and Radley College, who probably have more Henley Royal Regatta wins between them than races cancelled in 2024!

Coming into 2025, Quintin Head is the first major Tideway race for crews to use as an opportunity to showcase their winter training. We saw a very competitive junior women's sweep season last year, which has set the circuit up nicely for a repeat performance. Quintin Head will allow crews to see how they fare on the infamous Tideway, in preparation for the bigger head races still to come.

Quintin Head is one of the most prestigious head races of the season and essentially the first of the calendar year. It takes place between University Post (Chiswick Bridge) and Fulham Reach (shortly after Hammersmith Bridge and before Harrods Depository) on the Tideway. For many of the crews in this Junior 18 eights category, it will be their first chance to see where they stack up among the fierce competition at the highest level of schoolboy rowing.

At the end of last year, the Senior and Premier events were dominated by only two main clubs’ entries - North Shore Rowing Club and Waikato Rowing Club. Entries from other clubs were few and far between but by no means does this diminish the standard of racing from these two major squads. As these programmes grow, they continue to produce impressive performances and high standards across the athletes making up the teams, which we hope to see again throughout this weekend.

With the New Zealand Rowing Championships just around the corner, clubs from across the North Island are taking to Lake Karapiro one last time for the penultimate major event of the season: North Island Rowing Championships.
