Yes, I agree so much. It makes me feel such fondness for the author. I struggle with drawing the line for using Irish colloquailisms myself, because Hiberno-English is hard to understand I think, but when its nicely balanced it just gives your writing some humanity.

I think I really overcompensate with the other senses, especially smell and sound! Like when my wolf is in the forest, I'm describing the small of hot blooded rabbit or the way their paws beat on the earth like a drum or something (pulled that out of my ass lol) rather than getting too into the view

Oh I love that. I read so much fiction in the past tense, (and sometimes even in first person), but for fanfiction the vast majority I find out there seem to use present tense! But past tense can sound so romantic to me. I tend to use it for regency, traditional a/b/o for that reason.

Oh you know, I love when stories carry traces of the author and how they speak, cultural nods and colloquialisms!

Oh hard same, in fests I’ve never once surprised anyone who knows me at least decently well. One of these days, I’ll pick a totally different theme and see if that changes things. But I’m like you too, always gravitating to similar themes 😭

Oh that’s interesting and I haven’t thought about my own work in the context of more structural habits, it kind of makes me think about my style in a different way. However intentional, I think do the same. I tend to write one pov which I think influences this too.

I love this! Setting and place are so hard for me because I have aphantasia, and when people do it well and help me paint a real mood/setting, I just think its awesome!

Its almost impossible for us to know all of our tells, I think, like you're so close to your own writing the objectivity is super hard. But its funny, because the things you highlight as your strengths (banter/dialogue etc.) are the hardest for me, and I find long descriptions easier!

I love that actually! Obscure vocab is a great identifier to have, very stylish. For me... I have no idea. Whenever I think I'm doing something new, and I'm anon, people still find me easily. I think I spend a lot of time in a character's head and feelings, though!

This is me! I can't say I know what my style is, but no matter what genre I write, the same people find me easily haha.

but i just know i'd cry if he sung the last verse

And I guess he just never got warm
But you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice
Oh please, let me come into the storm"

Oh my god, one of our strongest soldiers. I say that having read and really loved it myself, but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to re-read it honestly. It is the kind of book to read slowly along side other writing and reading, I think.

I feel like with a title like Dear Mothman, I can't not start there! So intruiged by some of these other titles too, The Spirit Bares its Teeth is such an amazing title!

I'm loving it so far. I was a little trepedatious about how academic it was going to be (more in terms of me being so lost with math as a philosophy girlie) but I'm finding that well balanced so far. I'm a big fan of her work generally :) And I LOVE daphne du marier, rebecca is one of my all time..
